The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Orthoptic Service within Ophthalmology across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. The service is responsible to the AHP Director for clinical governance and operates across four Orthoptic departments. The successful candidate will work as part of a large multidisciplinary team comprising Band 6 and Band 7 Orthoptists (12.28 WTE), an Orthoptic Assistant, and colleagues from Optometry, Ophthalmology, and Nursing services. The role offers exposure to a wide-ranging caseload and excellent opportunities for learning, development, and progression through advanced and extended practice roles.

Key Responsibilities

The postholder will manage a varied caseload including adult motility, paediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, stroke, and oculoplastics clinics. The role includes supporting the Ophthalmology Acute Referral Centre and delivering pre-school vision screening programmes within nursery settings. Working autonomously within both adult and paediatric clinics, the successful candidate will be supported through supervision, mentoring, and specialist clinic development opportunities. The department also plays an active role in teaching undergraduate Orthoptic students, pre-registration Optometrists, and junior medical staff, providing opportunities to contribute to education and training activities.
