Job Description — Quality Engineer

Position Summary

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that every plan set, structural/electrical calculation, and

permit package released to the client meets AHJ, utility, and NEC/IRC code requirements before delivery.

The role owns first-pass quality at the checkpoint level, drives root cause analysis on rejections and

revisions, and works with Design, Engineering, and Permit teams to eliminate recurring defect categories

rather than only catching them.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control Execution

● Perform final QC review of residential/commercial solar plan sets against the applicable AHJ

checklist, utility interconnection requirements, and internal design standards.

● Verify electrical design accuracy — string sizing, conductor/OCPD sizing, voltage drop,

interconnection method, labelling and signage schedule.

● Validate structural inputs, site survey data, setbacks, and equipment specifications against the

approved design basis.

● Document every defect found with a defect category, severity,



and responsible stage.

Quality Assurance & Process

● Maintain and update AHJ- and utility-specific QC checklists as requirements change.

● Own the defect taxonomy and ensure consistent tagging across reviewers.

● Conduct root cause analysis (5-Why / Fishbone) on client rejections, AHJ corrections, and

internal escalations; convert findings into SOP or checklist updates.

● Run periodic audits on released jobs to measure reviewer effectiveness and detect checklist drift.

Continuous Improvement

● Identify the top recurring defect drivers each month and drive corrective/preventive actions

(CAPA) with the Design and Engineering teams.

● Support automation of QC rules where a defect is deterministic and rule-checkable.

● Contribute to training content and calibration sessions for designers based on live defect data.
