1. Taking over from the previous shift sister.

2. Administration of oral drugs, intravenous and intramuscular injections, dressings etc.

3. Bed making and sponging on patients.

4. Checking of all inventories like medicines, equipment etc.

5. Going on rounds with the doctors assisting them in various procedures and following their instructions.

6. Filling the laboratory requisition on form and sending the sample to the laboratory.

7. Ensuring total Preoperative & postoperative care to the patient.

8. Taking care of all equipments in the ward.

9. Co-ordinate with Ward Secretary regarding admission, discharge and billing activities.

10. Co-ordination with F & B department regarding patient diet.

11. Continuous monitoring of critical patients and informing the doctors in case of any emergency.

12. Giving psychological support to the patient.

13. Maintaining nursing & medical records related to daily routine on patient & various registers for diet ECG etc.

14. Orient recent comers to ward routines and systems.

Setting up special procedure trays, dressing trolleys and assisting doctors.

16. Getting all the instruments sterilized in the autoclave before performing any procedures.

17. Ensure that the trolleys, oxygen cylinders etc. are available at all times.

18. Informing the Nursing Supervisor on the patients condition.

19. Participates in the planning for total patient care with the ward sister, medical staff and other members if the health team including patients and families.

20. To promote good public relations.

21. To participate in the development and implementation of plan, evaluation and improving the nursing programme in the ward.

22. Biomedical waste should be segregated properly and should be disposed in the colour coded bag with has coded sticker.
