Accountants are responsible for a variety of finance-related tasks, including:
- Collecting, tracking, and analyzing financial information
- Making financial audits
- Reconciling bank statements
- Preparing budget forecasts
- Publishing financial statements
- Handling monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
- Reconciling accounts payable and receivable
- Ensuring timely bank payments
- Computing taxes and preparing tax returns
- Managing balance sheets and profit/loss statements

Accountants also provide financial information to management by:
- Researching and analyzing accounting data
- Preparing reports
- Preparing asset, liability, and capital account entries
- Documenting financial transactions
- Assisting with budgets and financial forecasting
- Reporting their findings to management and other entities,



such as the IRS or investors

Accountants should have:
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
- Intermediate understanding of accounting and reporting standards
- Advanced Excel skills
- Comfort and competence using financial software such as an ERP system
