About the Role
We're hiring a Data Engineer to build data pipelines for a workplace analytics initiative for a global banking client. The role involves pulling data from physical access systems and building/space systems, cleaning and transforming it, and producing secure, aggregated datasets — without exposing sensitive raw data. This runs on the client's on-prem servers today, with a planned future move to Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This is a production-facing role — you'll be expected to follow proper escalation processes and lead root cause analysis when issues arise.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines pulling from multiple source systems
- Design clean, well-structured data models — this is judged heavily,
since the design will carry forward into a future cloud migration
- Work across both logical and physical data modeling — from conceptual entity design through to actual database implementation
- Write and tune SQL queries for large data volumes
- Automate pipeline runs
- Ensure data quality, validation, and reconciliation
- Maintain data lineage — track and document how data moves and transforms across the pipeline, from raw source to final output
- Build with a "cloud-ready" mindset — code and design should lift-and-shift cleanly to GCP later
- Work with synthetic/test data (production data won't be available in lower environments)
- Follow structured SDLC practices across requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment
- Handle production issues through proper escalation procedures and structured Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Work closely with the internal team to stay up to date on product features, changes, and issues
