Job Description – Industrial MEP Designer

Position: Industrial MEP Designer
Location: Pune / Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra
Experience: 3–5 Years
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Operon Strategist is looking for a hands-on Industrial MEP Designer with 3–5 years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) design for industrial and manufacturing facilities.

The candidate will be responsible for routine MEP design, engineering calculations, preparation of drawings and BOQs, and coordination with architectural, structural/PEB, cleanroom, process, equipment and other specialist consultants.

The role is focused on industrial MEP engineering and coordination, rather than CAD drafting alone.

Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, healthcare manufacturing or other industrial facilities will be preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical / HVAC

- HVAC layout and equipment planning for industrial facilities.
- Ducting and HVAC piping layouts.
- Basic HVAC load, airflow and ventilation calculations.
- AHU and associated equipment sizing/selection support.
- Coordination of HVAC requirements with other MEP services.
- Coordination with specialist HVAC consultants wherever required.

2. Electrical

- Electrical load and maximum demand calculations.
- HT/LT distribution, transformer and DG requirements, as applicable.
- PCC/MCC/DB and power distribution layouts.
- Lighting, emergency lighting and small power layouts.
- Electrical requirements for machinery and process equipment.
- Cable sizing and voltage-drop calculations.
- Cable tray and cable routing layouts.
- Earthing and lightning protection.
- Preparation of SLDs, load schedules and equipment schedules.

3. Plumbing / PHE

- Domestic and industrial water supply design.
- Water demand calculations and distribution layouts.
- Plumbing and drainage layouts.
- Soil, waste and vent systems.
- Rainwater and external drainage systems.
- Water tank, pump and water distribution systems.
- Basic pump flow/head calculations.
- Plumbing risers and schematic diagrams.

4. Industrial Utilities

- Coordinate utility requirements for manufacturing machinery and process equipment.
- Coordinate compressed air, process water, drainage, exhaust and other industrial utilities.
- Prepare basic utility layouts and routing.
- Review equipment utility requirements and coordinate with equipment vendors and process teams.
- Coordinate utility requirements with manufacturing/process layouts.

5. MEP Coordination

Coordinate MEP services with:

- Architectural consultants
- PEB / structural consultants
- Cleanroom design consultants




- Process engineering consultants
- Equipment and machinery vendors
- Other specialist engineering consultants

Responsibilities include:

- Review architectural, structural, PEB and process drawings for MEP requirements.
- Coordinate service routes, equipment locations, shafts, openings and utility spaces.
- Identify and resolve MEP clashes and interface issues.
- Review and integrate drawings received from specialist consultants.
- Participate in multidisciplinary design coordination meetings.
- Ensure MEP requirements are properly incorporated into the overall project design.
- Support contractors and vendors during project execution.

6. Design Documentation & Project Support

- Prepare coordinated 2D and 3D MEP drawings.
- Prepare MEP schematics, SLDs and engineering layouts.
- Prepare design calculations, equipment schedules and BOQs.
- Prepare/review technical specifications and basic cost estimates.
- Review consultant, contractor and vendor drawings.
- Support technical evaluation and comparison of MEP vendor quotations.
- Maintain drawing revisions and project documentation.
- Conduct site visits and support MEP execution.
- Assist in resolving site-level MEP design and coordination issues.
- Support testing, commissioning and handover activities, wherever required.

Software Skills

Mandatory

- AutoCAD – Advanced
- Revit MEP – Good to Advanced working knowledge
- Microsoft Excel – Good working knowledge

Revit Requirement

Strong hands-on experience in Revit MEP is mandatory. The candidate should be capable of developing, modifying and coordinating 3D MEP models and extracting coordinated drawings from Revit.

The candidate does not need to be an expert in every software package; practical MEP design and coordination capability is more key.

Qualification & Experience

- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.
- 3–5 years of relevant Industrial MEP Design experience.
- Practical experience in industrial/manufacturing projects is strongly preferred.

Preferred Industry Experience

Experience in:

- Medical device manufacturing
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Healthcare manufacturing
- Industrial manufacturing
- Cleanroom-related industrial projects
- GMP-regulated facilities





will be an advantage.

Candidates with experience primarily in commercial, retail or high-rise building projects will not be preferred.

Required Technical Competencies

The candidate should have practical knowledge of:

- Industrial HVAC and ventilation systems.
- Industrial electrical distribution.
- Machinery and process equipment utility requirements.
- Plumbing, water supply and drainage systems.
- Pumping and water storage systems.
- Industrial utility systems.
- Compressed air and process utilities.
- Basic fire protection coordination.
- MEP service routing and multidisciplinary coordination.
- MEP design calculations and equipment sizing.
- Preparation of BOQs, schedules and technical documentation.
- Applicable Indian codes and standards relevant to MEP design.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should:

- Have genuine industrial MEP design experience, not primarily residential/commercial building experience.
- Be comfortable working across Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services.
- Be capable of independently handling routine industrial MEP design and coordination.
- Have strong hands-on Revit MEP and AutoCAD skills.
- Understand industrial machinery and process equipment utility requirements.
- Be able to interpret architectural, structural, PEB, process and equipment drawings.
- Have experience preparing BOQs, schedules and engineering documentation.
- Be capable of coordinating with multiple external consultants, vendors and contractors.
- Have good technical communication and coordination skills.
- Be willing to undertake site visits and support project execution.

Role Scope – Important

The candidate is expected to independently handle routine industrial MEP design and coordination across Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing services.

Detailed cleanroom design is outside the primary scope of this position. The candidate will coordinate with the appointed cleanroom design consultant to ensure that MEP requirements, service interfaces and utility provisions are properly incorporated into the overall project design.

For highly specialized requirements such as detailed HVAC engineering, advanced fire protection design or complex process utilities, the candidate will coordinate with specialist consultants as required.
