1. Role Overview
The Lab Assistant will provide day-to-day technical and operational support to the R&D; and Quality Control activities of G3 Renewables. The role involves sample collection and preparation, laboratory testing support, equipment handling, cleaning and sterilization, preparation of reagents and media, documentation, data recording and maintaining laboratory hygiene and safety.
The candidate will work closely with the R&D;, microbiology, QC and process-development teams and will support laboratory activities associated with G3R's waste biorefinery, fermentation, microbial, microalgal, moisture-reduction and product-development programmes.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Laboratory Operations
- Assist R&D; and QC personnel with routine laboratory activities.
- Receive, label, segregate and maintain samples properly.
- Prepare samples for physical, chemical and microbiological analysis.
- Assist in weighing, grinding, homogenization, dilution, filtration and other sample-preparation activities.
- Prepare laboratory reagents, solutions, buffers and microbiological media as instructed.
- Assist with routine laboratory experiments and process trials.
- Maintain laboratory workstations in a clean and organized condition.
- Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of laboratory glassware, tools and equipment.
B. Microbiology & Fermentation Support
- Assist microbiology personnel in media preparation and culture handling.
- Support microbial and microalgal culture maintenance under supervision.
- Assist in inoculum preparation and fermentation experiments.
- Maintain proper labelling and records of cultures and experimental samples.
- Follow aseptic techniques and laboratory protocols.
- Assist in monitoring fermentation parameters such as pH, temperature, time and visual observations.
- Support sampling during fermentation and other biological experiments.
C. Waste & Biorefinery Sample Handling
- Collect and prepare food, fruit, vegetable and flower waste samples for laboratory evaluation.
- Assist in characterization of incoming waste and processed materials.
- Support laboratory trials involving moisture reduction, drying, extraction, fermentation and product development.
- Maintain proper traceability of samples from incoming feedstock → processing → intermediate → final product.
- Follow prescribed protocols for handling organic waste and biological materials.
D. QC & Analytical Support
- Assist QC personnel with routine testing and measurements.
- Operate basic laboratory instruments after appropriate training.
- Record parameters such as moisture, pH, temperature, weight and other assigned measurements.
- Assist with preparation of samples for external laboratory analysis.
- Ensure test samples are correctly labelled and documented.
- Immediately report abnormal observations, contamination, equipment issues or unexpected results to the concerned supervisor.
E. Laboratory Documentation
- Maintain laboratory registers, sample logs and experiment records.
- Record observations and experimental data accurately and immediately.
- Maintain reagent and consumable registers.
- Assist in maintaining equipment usage and calibration records.
- Maintain proper records of cleaning, sterilization and laboratory maintenance.
- Follow G3R's SOPs, laboratory protocols and documentation systems.
- Assist in maintaining traceability of R&D; and QC samples.
F. Equipment & Inventory Management
- Assist in the safe operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Maintain laboratory glassware, instruments and accessories.
- Monitor laboratory consumables and inform the concerned person when stocks are low.
- Maintain proper storage of reagents, chemicals, media and laboratory materials.
- Assist in periodic inventory verification.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately after use.
G. Laboratory Safety & Hygiene
- Strictly follow laboratory safety procedures and G3R SOPs.
- Use appropriate PPE while handling samples, chemicals and biological materials.
- Follow proper waste segregation and disposal procedures.
- Maintain laboratory cleanliness and hygiene.
- Report spills, breakages, contamination, equipment malfunction or safety incidents immediately.
- Follow appropriate procedures for handling biological samples and laboratory chemicals.
3. Required Skills
- Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and positive laboratory practices.
- Ability to accurately measure, weigh, label and record samples.
- Basic knowledge of microbiology, biotechnology, chemistry, environmental science or related laboratory practices.
- Good observation and documentation skills.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to maintain digital records.
- Ability to follow SOPs precisely.
- Good laboratory housekeeping and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work with organic waste and biological samples.
- Ability to work as part of an R&D;/QC team.
4. Educational Qualification
Preferred:
- Diploma / B.Sc. in Microbiology
- Biotechnology
- Biochemistry
- Chemistry
- Environmental Science
- Food Technology
- Life Sciences
- Agricultural Sciences
- or a related discipline.
Candidates with relevant laboratory experience and appropriate technical skills may also be considered.
5. Experience
Preferred: 0–2 years of laboratory experience.
Fresh graduates with good practical laboratory skills and a willingness to learn may be considered.

- Compliance with laboratory SOPs and safety procedures.
- Accuracy and completeness of laboratory records.
- Timely completion of assigned laboratory activities.
- Proper maintenance and cleanliness of laboratory equipment.
- Effective inventory and consumable monitoring.
- Reduction of errors, contamination and sample mix-ups.
- Responsiveness to R&D; and QC team requirements.
8. Growth Opportunity
The position provides an opportunity to develop practical expertise in waste biorefinery, microbiology, fermentation, process development, QC and sustainable resource recovery. Based on performance and technical competency, the Lab Assistant may progress into roles such as Laboratory Technician, R&D; Assistant, QC Assistant, Microbiology Technician or R&D; Executive.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
G3R is looking for a technically inclined and disciplined individual who enjoys hands-on laboratory work and wants to build a career in sustainable technology.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable moving between sample preparation, laboratory experiments, equipment handling, documentation and housekeeping, while working closely with G3R's SEED R&D; and QC teams.
Accuracy, discipline, cleanliness, willingness to learn and respect for laboratory SOPs are more important than prior industry experience.
