CHEMIST – POWDER COATING INDUSTRY

Location: Coimbatore – Varapatti / Karumathampatti Belt
Experience: 2–6 Years in Powder Coating / Paint Industry
Qualification: B.Sc / M.Sc Chemistry / B.Tech Chemical / Paint Technology

JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for an experienced Chemist – Powder Coating to manage powder coating quality, pre-treatment chemistry, process parameters, laboratory testing, and new shade development. The candidate should ensure excellent adhesion, finish, colour consistency, and corrosion resistance as per customer specifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Powder Coating Process & Control

- Monitor powder coating parameters such as DFT, curing temperature (180–200°C), oven profiling, booth voltage (60–90 KV), and powder flow.
- Monitor powder inventory, recovery rate, first-pass yield, and powder consumption per sq.m.
- Ensure consistent coating quality and process efficiency.

2. Pre-Treatment Chemistry

- Control 7-tank / 9-tank pre-treatment processes.
- Handle Degreasing, De-rusting, Activation, Phosphating (Zinc / Iron phosphate), and Passivation.
- Perform daily titration and analysis of total acid, free acid, pH, concentration, and temperature.
- Maintain chemical dosing and monitoring records.

3. Quality Testing & Laboratory

- Conduct DFT, Gloss, Pencil Hardness, Cross-cut Adhesion, Salt Spray Test (SST), Impact, Bend, and Colour Matching / Delta E tests.
- Handle incoming powder testing and batch approval.
- Coordinate with powder and chemical suppliers.

4. Shade Development & Troubleshooting

- Develop new RAL shades and textures such as Matt, Structure, and Metallic.




- Troubleshoot coating defects including:
- Orange Peel
- Pinholes
- Cratering
- Poor Coverage
- Colour Variation
- Low Gloss
- Rust Bleeding
- Implement CAPA for coating-related complaints.

5. Documentation & EHS

- Maintain ISO 9001 / IMS documentation, test reports, titration charts, oven charts, and SST records.
- Ensure proper chemical handling, PPE compliance, MSDS maintenance, and waste disposal.
- Train operators on pre-treatment and powder coating best practices.

SKILLS REQUIRED

- Strong knowledge of pre-treatment chemistry and powder coating processes.
- Hands-on experience with Gloss Meter, DFT Gauge, pH Meter, Salt Spray Chamber, and Oven Recorder.
- Knowledge of coating behaviour on CRCA, GI, and Aluminium substrates.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and technical reporting.
- Strong Root Cause Analysis and 5 Why methodology.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

- Experience in Panel Manufacturing, Sheet Metal, or Auto Components industry.
- Knowledge of CED coating will be an added advantage.
