JOB DESCRIPTION
SENIOR TOOLROOM DESIGNER – PLASTIC INJECTION MOULDING

**Location:** Gujarat (Umbergaon)
POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced and technically strong Senior Toolroom Designer with extensive experience in **Plastic Injection Mould Design and Tooling**.
The candidate will be responsible for designing, developing and modifying plastic injection moulds, mould components, electrodes, fixtures and tooling , while working closely with Production, Tool Room, Quality and Development teams.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on knowledge of the complete mould-development cycle, from **product feasibility and DFM to mould design, manufacturing, trials, corrections and final approval**.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plastic Injection Mould Design
* Design and develop ,plastic injection moulds as per customer drawings and product requirements.
* Prepare complete 3D mould assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings
* Design mould components including:
* Core & Cavity
* Inserts
* Slides
* Lifters
* Ejector systems
* Guide pillars & bushes
* Cooling systems
* Sprue, runner & gating systems
* Hot runner systems
* Mould bases and standard components
* Select appropriate mould construction based on product geometry, material and production requirements.
* Design multi-cavity, family, insert and complex moulds where required.
2. Product Design & DFM
* Review plastic component/product designs for **manufacturability and mould feasibility**.
* Conduct **DFM (Design for Manufacturing)** studies.
* Identify issues related to:
* Draft angle
* Undercuts
* Wall thickness
* Parting line
* Sink marks
* Warpage
* Ejection
* Weld lines
* Air traps
* Shrinkage
* Recommend design modifications to improve mouldability,
quality and tool life.
* Coordinate with customers/design teams for design changes and approvals.
3. Tool Room Coordination
* Coordinate with Tool Room, CNC, VMC, EDM, Wire Cut and Assembly teams for mould manufacturing.
* Provide technical clarification and support during machining and mould assembly.
* Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
* Ensure components are manufactured according to approved designs and tolerances.
* Support toolmakers during complex mould assembly and fitting.
4. Mould Trial & Correction
* Participate in **mould trials and mould validation**.
* Analyse trial results and identify design-related problems.
* Prepare necessary modifications/corrections after trials.
* Support resolution of issues related to:
* Flash
* Short moulding
* Warpage
* Sink marks
* Ejection problems
* Parting-line mismatch
* Cooling imbalance
* Filling issues
* Implement design improvements to achieve the required component quality.
5. Engineering & Continuous Improvement
* Develop standard mould-design practices and templates.
* Maintain design standards and standardization of mould components.
* Identify opportunities for **cost reduction, cycle-time reduction and tool-life improvement**.
* Support development of new tooling concepts and engineering improvements.
* Maintain proper revision control of drawings and mould designs.
SOFTWARE / TECHNICAL SKILLS
Robust hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
UG-NX / Unigraphics
AutoCAD
CATIA
SolidWorks
Creo / Pro-E
* Mold Wizard or equivalent mould-design software
The candidate should be capable of independently handling **3D modelling, assembly design, detailing and 2D manufacturing drawings**.
MACHINING & TOOLING KNOWLEDGE
Candidate should have good practical understanding of:
* CNC / VMC machining
* EDM
* Wire EDM
* Grinding
* Milling
* Turning
* Drilling
* Mould polishing
* Mould fitting & assembly
* Electrode design
* GD&T; and engineering tolerances
* Standard mould components
PLASTIC MATERIAL KNOWLEDGE
Good knowledge of commonly used injection moulding materials such as:
* PP
* ABS
* HDPE
* LDPE
* POM
* Nylon / PA
* PC
* PC-ABS
* PBT
* TPE / TPU
Understanding of **material shrinkage and its impact on mould design** will be highly preferred.
*QUALIFICATION*
* Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in **Mechanical / Tool & Die / Production Engineering**.
* Tool & Die / Mould Design certification will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
8–15 years of relevant experience** in Tool Room / Mould Design.
* Strong preference for candidates having experience specifically in **Plastic Injection Mould Design & Manufacturing**.
* Experience in handling moulds from **concept → DFM → design → manufacturing → assembly → trial → correction → final approval** will be highly preferred.
