The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing, treating, and caring for patients with breathing and cardiopulmonary disorders. The role includes managing ventilators, oxygen therapy, and providing respiratory support in ICU, Emergency, and ward settings.
Job Title: Respiratory Therapist
Department: Respiratory Care / ICU / Emergency
Reports To: Medical Superintendent / ICU In-Charge
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions
- Administer oxygen therapy, nebulization, and aerosol medications
- Operate, monitor, and maintain ventilators (invasive & non-invasive)
- Assist in intubation, extubation, and airway management procedures
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation
- Monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, and respiratory status
- Provide chest physiotherapy and pulmonary rehabilitation support
- Ensure proper functioning and sterilization of respiratory equipment
- Respond to emergency situations such as respiratory failure and cardiac arrest
- Maintain accurate patient records and therapy documentation
- Follow hospital protocols, NABH standards, and infection control practices
- Educate patients and attendants on breathing exercises and device usage
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s / Diploma in Respiratory Therapy
- Valid registration (if applicable)
- 0–3 years experience in ICU / Emergency preferred
