Data Governance & Quality Analyst (Remote)
Location: India
Reports To: Sr. Manager, Data Governance & Quality
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Data Governance & Quality Analyst to ensure data is accurate, complete, timely, consistent, and trustworthy across ingestion, transformation, governance, and reporting.
This is an individual contributor role. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with data governance, data quality, Microsoft Purview, SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, and Power BI, and has worked in a lean or collaborative team where they owned governance and quality activities rather than supporting only a narrow workflow.
The candidate should be comfortable working directly with governance tools, investigating data-quality issues, supporting Purview configuration and implementation, onboarding data sources, and working closely with Data Engineering and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
Data Quality & Governance
- Define and implement data quality rules covering completeness, accuracy, consistency, uniqueness, conformity, and timeliness across Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric pipelines.
- Monitor data quality across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers and investigate anomalies, duplicates, missing data, and reconciliation issues.
- Perform source-to-target and cross-system reconciliation, including payroll, GL, invoice, sales, and inventory data.
- Support direct-to-gold feeds with handshake, reconciliation, and audit-trail controls.
- Define quality SLAs, acceptance criteria, and governance requirements for new data sources.
- Perform root-cause analysis and work with Data Engineers and business stakeholders to resolve data-quality issues.
- Validate PII protection, encryption, and Power BI Row-Level Security (RLS) controls.
Microsoft Purview – Governance & Implementation
- Work hands-on with Microsoft Purview to maintain the enterprise data catalog and governance environment.
- Participate in the configuration and implementation of data source registration, scanning, classifications, metadata, business glossary, lineage, and sensitivity labels.
- Maintain data catalog, metadata, lineage, glossary, and classification requirements as data sources and schemas evolve.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of Purview-related issues in collaboration with technical teams.
- Ensure governance controls align with PII/PCI requirements and business standards.
Important: Candidates should have meaningful hands-on experience with Purview and should be able to explain what they personally configured, implemented, maintained, validated, or managed. Experience limited to simply running reports or consuming an already-established Purview setting is not sufficient.
Power BI, MDM & Reporting
- Build and maintain data quality scorecards and KPI dashboards in Power BI and/or Microsoft Purview.
- Perform reporting validation and reconciliation before production release.
- Ensure reporting attributes are aligned with business glossary definitions in Purview.
- Support master data governance in Profisee, including matching, merging, survivorship, and golden-record management.
- Ensure mastered identifiers propagate correctly through downstream data layers and applications.
Collaboration & Ownership
- Work closely with Data Engineers, Business Analysts, Data Stewards, and business stakeholders.
- Translate technical data-quality findings into clear business recommendations.
- Independently own assigned governance and quality workstreams from investigation through resolution.
- Maintain audit trails for mapping changes,
manual overrides, vendor setups, and other governance activities.
- Support continuous onboarding of new data sources in a high-volume, rapidly changing data environment.
Required Qualifications
Individual Ownership Requirement
Candidates should be able to clearly explain:
- What they personally configured, implemented, validated, or managed.
- What governance and data-quality activities they personally own.
- What responsibilities belong to them versus Data Engineering or other team members.
- How they have worked independently within a small or cross-functional team.
Candidates whose experience is primarily people management, oversight, reviewing reports, or consuming governance tools configured entirely by others may not be successful in this role.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, or related field.
- 4–6 years of recent, hands-on experience in Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Management, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview and participation in Purview configuration/implementation.
- Strong SQL skills for data profiling, quality rules, reconciliation, and root-cause analysis.
- Experience with data quality frameworks, profiling, validation, and scorecards.
- Experience with Power BI for data-quality dashboards and reporting.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse and data engineering workloads.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake/Lakehouse, or related Azure data services.
- Understanding of Medallion Architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) and direct-to-gold data flows.
- Experience working with multiple data sources in a high-volume data environment.
- Ability to independently investigate and resolve data governance and quality issues.
- Experience working in a lean or cross-functional team with broad individual ownership, rather than a highly siloed role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
