Summary
The PLC Programmer in the Maintenance Department is responsible for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of automated systems across the plant. This role involves programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems, while supporting preventive and corrective maintenance activities. The position requires strong technical expertise, analytical thinking, and the ability to work under pressure to minimize downtime and optimize production processes.
Role & responsibilities
1. Programming & Development
- Design, develop, and modify PLC programs to support new equipment installations and process improvements.
- Integrate PLCs with HMIs, SCADA, and other automation systems.
- Implement logic changes to improve machine performance, safety, and energy efficiency.
2. Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve PLC-related faults during breakdowns to restore operations quickly.
- Support electrical and mechanical teams in troubleshooting complex automation issues.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance of PLC-controlled equipment.
3. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain up-to-date documentation of PLC programs, wiring diagrams, and system configurations.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Prepare reports on breakdowns, corrective actions, and system modifications.
4. Continuous Improvement
- Participate in root cause analysis of recurring issues and propose long-term solutions.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize processes.
- Suggest upgrades to obsolete hardware/software to improve reliability.
5. Training & Support
- Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance technicians on PLC systems.
- Act as a subject matter expert for automation-related queries within the department.
Preferred candidate profile
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Mitsubishi, Omron).
- Knowledge of HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs;, and technical manuals.
- Soft Skills:
- Solid problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
