Job Title: Tech Lead – Go / Golang Backend
Overall Experience: 6 – 10 Years
Backend Development Experience: Minimum 6 Years
Go / Golang Experience: Minimum 4 Years Preferred (3+ years considered for exceptional candidates)
Location: Pune, Maharashtra, India
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, deeply technical, and hands-on Tech Lead – Go / Golang Backend to lead the engineering of scalable, high-performance, and highly concurrent backend systems.
This is an engineering-first leadership position (~60–70% hands-on coding and technical ownership), rather than a purely managerial role. You will work closely with the Technical Architect to translate high-level system designs into robust, production-ready microservices, own critical components, conduct rigorous code reviews, mentor engineers, and tackle complex performance and concurrency challenges in production.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & Hands-On Engineering
- Actively code (~60–70% hands-on) and personally build critical backend services, core frameworks, and high-concurrency systems.
- Translate architecture blueprints and high-level technical decisions into pragmatic engineering implementations.
- Conduct strict code reviews, enforce best practices, and maintain exceptional engineering standards across the backend team.
- Break down complex product requirements into actionable technical tasks and identify/mitigate technical debt.
System Design & Architecture Execution
- Architect, design, and implement scalable microservices, distributed systems, and asynchronous/event-driven workflows.
- Implement robust RESTful APIs, service-to-service communication, caching strategies, and high-performance data access layers.
- Design systems capable of seamlessly handling high transaction volumes and heavy concurrent traffic.
Production Engineering, DevOps & Observability
- Own technical components end-to-end—from initial design through to CI/CD and production deployment.
- Monitor, profile, and optimize application CPU, memory usage, database operations, and network throughput.
- Troubleshoot complex production incidents, lead root-cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventive measures.
- Elevate testing methodologies, deployment pipelines, logging, metrics, and overall observability.
Team Mentorship & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, pair programming, and problem-solving.
- Resolve complex technical blockers across the engineering team.
- Partner directly with the Technical Architect to guide architectural trade-offs, scalability decisions, and platform evolution.
Mandatory Technical Requirements1. Go / Golang Deep Expertise
- Experience: Minimum 6+ years of total software engineering experience, with at least 4 years dedicated to Go in production. (Candidates with 3+ years of Go experience may be considered if they demonstrate exceptional mastery in system design, backend scalability, and distributed systems).
- Concurrency & Synchronization: Deep practical understanding of Goroutines, Channels (buffered & unbuffered), select, context, sync.Mutex, RWMutex, race condition detection, deadlocks, and synchronization primitives.
- Go Internals & Mechanics: Robust grasp of the Go memory model, garbage collection behavior, interfaces, error handling idioms, structs, and pointers.
- Tooling & Optimization: Practical expertise with Go modules, dependency management, profiling (pprof), performance tuning, and writing clean, idiomatic Go.
- Crucial Understanding: Ability to identify when not to introduce concurrency, prioritizing correctness and maintainability over unnecessary parallelism.
2. Microservices & Distributed Systems
- Experience: 3+ years building distributed backend systems or microservices.
- Domain Mastery: Deep proficiency in service decomposition, inter-service communication patterns, REST, gRPC concepts, API gateways, service discovery, and load balancing.
- Resilience & Reliability: Hands-on experience implementing distributed locking, idempotency, retry strategies, circuit breakers, eventual consistency, distributed transactions, failure handling, horizontal scaling, and high availability (HA).
3. Databases & Data Layer
- RDBMS: Advanced hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
- Database Engineering: Deep knowledge of database schema design, advanced SQL, index strategies, query optimization, transactions, ACID isolation levels, database locks, connection pooling, and diagnosing database bottlenecks for high-volume data.
4.
Caching Technologies
- Redis: Production experience with Redis for caching, TTL management, cache invalidation models, distributed locking concepts, high-throughput scenarios, and handling cache failure/degradation.
5. Messaging & Event-Driven Architecture
- Platforms: Production experience with Apache Kafka and/or RabbitMQ (or equivalent message brokers).
- Event Patterns: Practical grasp of producers/consumers, consumer groups, delivery semantics (at-least-once, exactly-once), handling duplicate events, idempotent consumers, retries, dead-letter queues (DLQ), message ordering, and failure recovery.
6. Security & APIs
- Security Standards: Deep knowledge of RESTful API design, authentication, authorization, JWT, OAuth / OAuth2 principles, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
- Hardening: Proficiency in API security, rate limiting, input validation, secrets management, and secure coding practices.
7. DevOps & Cloud Ecosystem
- Operational Literacy: Practical understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Linux environments, and major cloud providers (AWS / GCP / Azure).
- Observability: Hands-on awareness of application logging, metrics collection, distributed tracing, and real-time production debugging. (Role does not require a dedicated DevOps engineer, but requires full understanding of how services run in production).
System Design Expectations Candidates are expected to design and defend systems featuring:
- Millions of daily requests and high concurrent connections.
- Massive transaction volumes and real-time processing capabilities.
- Fault-tolerant, horizontally scalable, and highly available architectures.
- Strong data consistency models coupled with graceful degradation under peak stress.
- Clear articulation of architectural choices, trade-offs, and failure modes.
Preferred Background Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience building large-scale production systems in:
- FinTech, Payments, Banking Tech, Wallets, or Transaction Processing
- Trading and Exchange Platforms
- Real-Time Communication and Messaging Platforms
- Large-Scale SaaS Platforms
- High-Volume E-Commerce Platforms
Good to Have
- Hands-on experience with WebSockets, gRPC, or GraphQL.
- Search & Analytics engines like Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
- Managing Kubernetes at scale.
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and Event-Driven Architecture (EDA).
- Distributed tracing frameworks and performance/load testing methodology.
- Prior experience migrating monolithic/legacy systems (Node.js, Java, Python) to Go.
- Track record of engineering services for ultra-high concurrency.
