Senior Software Developer – PX4 / UAV Autonomy

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Software Developer – PX4 / UAV Autonomy to lead the development of flight software, autonomy, and intelligent capabilities across our UAV platforms.
This is a senior hands-on role responsible for PX4 development, UAV software architecture, team technical guidance, swarm technologies, onboard AI, computer vision, autonomous navigation, and precision landing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development and customisation of PX4 flight control software for our UAV platforms.
- Develop and optimise flight modes, navigation logic, mission management, failsafes, and UAV-specific features.
- Own the overall UAV software architecture and guide the software/autonomy development team.
- Develop multi-UAV and swarm capabilities, including coordination, communication, formation, and collaborative mission execution.
- Integrate AI and computer vision capabilities into UAVs for onboard intelligence and autonomous decision-making.
- Develop target/object detection, identification, classification, and tracking capabilities for approved applications.
- Develop vision-based precision/target landing and autonomous approach algorithms.
- Work on GPS-denied navigation, visual navigation, obstacle detection/avoidance, terrain awareness, and sensor fusion.
- Integrate cameras, companion computers, GNSS/RTK, LiDAR, radar, optical flow, and other UAV sensors.
- Develop communication between PX4, companion computers, payloads, ground control systems, and other UAVs.
- Lead SITL/HITL testing, simulation,
flight testing, log analysis, debugging, and software validation.
- Establish software development standards, code-review practices, documentation, version control, testing, and release processes.
- Mentor developers and work closely with Flight Controls, Electronics, AI/ML, Product Development, and Flight Test teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in UAV, robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded software development.
- Robust hands-on experience with PX4 development and customisation.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python.
- Good understanding of flight controllers, UAV dynamics, control systems, navigation, and sensor fusion.
- Experience with MAVLink, ROS/ROS 2, Linux, Git, and embedded systems.
- Experience integrating companion computers such as NVIDIA Jetson or similar edge-computing platforms.
- Knowledge of computer vision, AI/ML, OpenCV, object detection/tracking, and onboard inference.
- Experience with SITL/HITL simulation and real-world UAV flight testing.
- Strong debugging, system integration, technical leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Candidates who have developed and flight-tested advanced UAV capabilities such as swarming, autonomous navigation, vision-based landing, GPS-denied navigation, obstacle avoidance, onboard AI, or multi-UAV coordination will be highly preferred.
We are looking for someone who can write and review code, solve difficult flight-software problems, architect future UAV capabilities, and technically lead the team from development through real-world flight testing.
