A Laboratory Assistant in a Degree and Pharmacy College plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth functioning of academic and research laboratories (such as Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Pharmacognosy labs). They work under the direct supervision of faculty members, lab instructors, and senior scientists.
Key Roles and Responsibilities1. Academic and Practical Session Support
Pre-experiment Setup: Prepare reagents, solutions, standard drug formulations, and chemical mixtures in accurate proportions required for student practical sessions.
Equipment Arrangement: Set up and calibrate specialized pharmacy instruments (e.g., tablet compression machines, dissolution test apparatus, disintegration testers, pH meters, colorimeters, and microscopes) prior to classes.
Demonstration Assistance: Assist faculty members or lab demonstrators during hands-on student experiments, trials, and research demonstrations.
Laboratory Maintenance and Safety
Cleanliness & Hygiene: Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of workbenches, glassware, analytical balances, and the general laboratory setting.
Safety Protocol Enforcement: Ensure strict compliance with safety guidelines, proper disposal of hazardous chemical waste, biological specimens,
and broken glassware.
Emergency Readiness: Check safety equipment regularly, including fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and first-aid kits.
Inventory and Stock Management
Stock Control: Maintain meticulous registers and digital logs of chemicals, solvents, glassware, raw materials, and specialized pharmaceutical machinery.
Replenishment: Monitor stock levels and report requirements for current supplies, reagents, or replacement parts to the Head of Department (HOD) or Lab In-charge.
Inspection: Regularly check chemical shelf-lives, purity parameters, and equipment functionality to prevent operational delays.
Record Keeping and Administrative Tasks
Maintain registers for student attendance, equipment usage logs, and breakage/damage reports.
Document calibration records and service histories of sophisticated laboratory instruments.
Eligibility and Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor’s degree in Science (B.Sc. in Chemistry / Biochemistry / Microbiology) or a Bachelor’s / Diploma in Pharmacy (B.Pharm / D.Pharm).
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
