Senior Manager – Australian Accounting & Tax | India Practice LeadRemote – India | ₹54 LPA equivalent | A$80,000 p.a. + Performance IncentivesIndependent Professional Contractor An Exceptional Senior OpportunityWe are an established Australian accounting and tax practice seeking an exceptional qualified accountant based in India to become a key member of our professional team.
This is not a conventional offshore processing role.
You will work closely with our Australian team and particularly our Firm Associate (2IC to the CEO), preparing, reviewing and finalising Australian financial statements and tax returns — including work prepared by accountants in our Australian office.
The standard is high. Your completed work should ordinarily be ready for summary final review and release to the client, without substantial rework.
You must remain technically hands-on and capable of personally producing complex Australian accounting and taxation work to an exceptional standard.
Once established, you will also have the opportunity to help us recruit, build and lead a small, high-quality accounting team in India.
Why This Role Is DifferentWork directly with our Australian team.
This is genuine professional collaboration, not work simply passed offshore for processing.
Be trusted with senior-level work.
You will review and finalise work prepared by experienced accountants, including Australian-based accountants.
Remain technically hands-on.
You must be capable of personally taking a complex Australian accounting and taxation engagement and producing an excellent result.
Genuine professional autonomy.
We want someone who can manage priorities, solve problems, exercise sound judgement and take responsibility for results.
Help build something.
You will have the opportunity to help recruit, develop and lead our Indian team and influence its standards and processes.
Professional Services FeeA$80,000 per annumCurrently approximately ₹54 lakh p.a.Plus performance-based financial incentivesThe fee is paid monthly in Australian dollars, so the INR equivalent will fluctuate with exchange rates.
We have deliberately positioned the remuneration at the premium end of the Indian market because we want an exceptionally capable professional and a long-term relationship.
Exceptional performance may be recognised through additional financial incentives.
The Standard We ExpectAfter you have prepared or reviewed a file, it should ordinarily be:
- technically correct and fully reconciled;
- properly documented with high-quality workpapers;
- consistent across related entities;
- commercially sensible; and
- ready for client release following summary final review.
Substantial further review or rework should not ordinarily be required. Routine issues should be resolved before final review. For genuinely complex matters, we expect you to identify and research the issue, develop a considered position and collaborate with the Firm Associate and, where appropriate, the CEO.
Knowing what to resolve independently and what to escalate is an important part of the role.
What You Will DoYou will:
- personally prepare complex Australian financial statements and tax returns;
- review and finalise work prepared by Australian and Indian accountants;
- identify and resolve accounting and taxation issues;
- provide clear technical review points;
- undertake Australian taxation research;
- work closely with the Firm Associate on technical matters, workflow and priorities;
- assist with tax planning and complex private-group matters;
- manage competing priorities and deadlines;
- supervise, mentor and develop accountants;
- maintain accurate timesheets and strong productive output;
- monitor team workflow, quality and productivity;
- prepare concise workflow and performance reporting; and
- assist with recruitment and development of our Indian team.
Australian Tax & Accounting CapabilityYou should have strong practical Australian SME and private-client experience across:
- companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals;
- complex business and family groups;
- trust distributions and UPEs;
- Division 7A;
- CGT and small business CGT concessions;
- company and trust losses;
- franking accounts and dividends;
- GST, BAS, IAS and FBT;
- tax planning;
- related-party transactions and inter-entity loans; and
- income-tax reconciliations.
You should know how to identify an unfamiliar issue, research Australian taxation law and guidance, reach a technically supportable position and communicate it clearly. Your financial accounting capability must be equally strong.
You should be capable of preparing and reviewing high-quality financial statements and workpapers for complex Australian groups and readily identifying unreconciled balances, incorrect treatments, inter-entity inconsistencies, inadequate workpapers and taxation issues.
You Must Already Operate at Review LevelWe are not looking for someone whose experience has primarily involved preparing work for several subsequent levels of review.
You should currently, or recently, have been responsible for independently reviewing and finalising Australian financial statements and tax returns prepared by other accountants.
Ideally, once you complete your review, the work proceeds to a partner, director or equivalent for summary/final review rather than substantial technical rework.
You should be comfortable reviewing work prepared by experienced Australian accountants.
Exceptional Quality AND ProductivityTechnical excellence is essential, but this is also a commercial professional practice.
You should be comfortable
- maintaining accurate timesheets;
- achieving strong productive output;
- managing multiple engagements and deadlines;
- prioritising independently;
- managing workflow and WIP;
- supervising a small team; and
- reporting clearly on progress, quality and capacity.
We are looking for exceptional quality combined with exceptional productivity.Build and Lead Our Indian TeamOnce established, you will progressively assist with recruiting, technically assessing, training and mentoring Indian accountants; allocating and reviewing work; maintaining technical standards; monitoring productivity and quality; and reporting team performance to the Firm Associate. The Indian team may ultimately provide financial statement preparation, Australian taxation compliance, BAS, bookkeeping, management accounting and related services.
Our objective is not a large low-cost processing centre.
We want a small team of excellent people delivering high-quality work with strong productive output.

- experience in a timesheet/productivity-based professional environment;
- strong professional judgement; and
- a recognised accounting qualification.

The Firm Associate is 2IC to the CEO and is senior to this position.
