We are looking for a Retail Merchandiser – Allocation & Planning who will be responsible for driving the right product availability across stores by effectively planning, allocating and replenishing merchandise. The role will involve close coordination with Buying, Merchandising, Planning, Supply Chain, Warehouse and Retail Operations teams to ensure optimum inventory levels, improved sell-through and reduced stock-outs.
The ideal candidate should have strong analytical and Excel skills, a good understanding of retail metrics, and the ability to translate sales and inventory data into actionable allocation decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Merchandise Planning & Allocation
- Plan and allocate merchandise across stores based on store potential, sales trends, category performance and inventory requirements.
- Prepare store-wise and category-wise allocation plans for new launches, seasonal collections and ongoing products.
- Ensure the right product, size, colour and quantity reaches the right store at the right time.
- Monitor stock availability and identify opportunities for reallocation / redistribution between stores.
- Develop allocation strategies based on store clusters, formats, locations and customer profiles.
2. Sales & Inventory Analysis
- Analyse SKU-wise, store-wise and category-wise sales and inventory performance.
- Monitor key retail metrics such as:
- Sell-through %
- Stock cover
- WOS / Weeks of Supply
- ROS / Rate of Sale
- Stock Turn
- Availability %
- Ageing
- Markdown
- Stock-to-sales ratio
- Identify fast-moving, slow-moving and non-moving products and recommend corrective actions.
- Analyse size-wise sales to ensure appropriate size mix at store level.
3. Replenishment Planning
- Monitor daily/weekly store stock levels and generate replenishment requirements.
- Ensure timely replenishment of fast-moving and high-demand SKUs.
- Track stock-outs and take corrective action to improve product availability.
- Coordinate with warehouse and supply chain teams for timely dispatches.
4. Store & Category Planning
- Create store clusters based on sales potential, store size, location and customer profile.
- Develop category-wise stock norms for different store types.
- Maintain optimum inventory levels across stores while minimizing excess inventory.
- Support seasonal and promotional planning through appropriate inventory deployment.
5. New Store / New Collection Allocation
- Prepare initial allocation plans for new store openings.
- Plan merchandise deployment for new collections and seasonal launches.
- Ensure adequate depth and width of merchandise during launch periods.
- Review initial sales performance and recommend subsequent replenishment or reallocation.
6. Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Work closely with Buying & Merchandising teams to understand product launches, OTB and assortment plans.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain / Warehouse for stock availability and dispatch planning.
- Work with Retail Operations / Store Teams to understand ground-level stock requirements.
- Highlight inventory risks and opportunities to management with clear data-backed recommendations.

MIS & Reporting
- Prepare regular daily, weekly and monthly MIS reports covering sales, stock, allocation and replenishment.
- Maintain allocation trackers and ensure accuracy of inventory data.
- Provide management with insights on category and store performance.
- Develop dashboards and reports to support business decision-making.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Robust understanding of fashion retail merchandising and planning.
- Excellent analytical and numerical ability.
- Strong command of MS Excel – Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, IF formulas, data analysis, etc.
- Understanding of retail KPIs and inventory metrics.
- Strong understanding of size-wise and store-wise assortment planning.
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work with large datasets and identify business trends.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Background
- 3–7 years of experience in Retail Merchandising, Allocation, Merchandise Planning or Retail Planning.
- Experience in Fashion / Apparel / Lifestyle retail preferred.
- Experience handling multi-store retail networks will be an advantage.
- Candidates with experience in BIBA, Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop, Pantaloons, Reliance Trends, Max, Westside, V-Mart, Aurelia or similar fashion retail organizations may be preferred.
