Principal RF & Microwave Engineer – Directed Energy / Counter-UASCompany: Hexon Technology
Location: 100% Remote
Type: Full-Time or Founding/Consulting-to-Full-Time
About HexonHexon Technology is building ATLAS, an edge-based defense platform designed to combine sensors, persistent tracking, intelligent decision support, and multiple effectors into a unified system for protecting critical infrastructure and sensitive environments.
Our objective is to build a platform capable of detecting, understanding, prioritizing, and responding to emerging threats, including unmanned aerial systems.
We are expanding ATLAS into counter-UAS and directed-energy applications and are looking for a senior RF technical leader to help establish this capability from the ground up.
The RoleWe are seeking a Principal RF & Microwave Engineer who can serve as the technical lead for our RF and directed-energy development efforts.
This is not a narrow design role.
You will help define the RF architecture, evaluate technical approaches, establish laboratory and test capabilities, develop prototypes, recruit additional specialists, and integrate RF hardware with the ATLAS command-and-control platform.
The ideal candidate combines the architectural experience of a chief engineer with the ability to remain deeply hands-on.
Relevant backgrounds include
- High-power RF and microwave systems
- Directed-energy research and development
- Electronic warfare
- Radar systems
- Active electronically scanned arrays and phased arrays
- RF power electronics
- Counter-UAS systems
- Defense RF systems
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the technical authority for Hexon’s RF and microwave engineering efforts
- Develop system-level RF architecture for future ATLAS-integrated counter-UAS capabilities
- Lead RF/microwave modeling, simulation,
prototyping, characterization, and testing
- Evaluate RF sources, amplifiers, antennas, arrays, power architectures, and supporting technologies
- Develop requirements and interfaces between RF hardware and ATLAS
- Work with antenna, embedded, FPGA, power, thermal, mechanical, controls, and software engineers
- Establish safe laboratory development and test processes
- Lead electromagnetic compatibility and interference considerations across the platform
- Help define verification, validation, instrumentation, and test requirements
- Evaluate commercial components and potential technology partners
- Translate operational counter-UAS requirements into engineering requirements
- Help recruit and mentor a larger RF/direct-energy engineering organization as the company grows
- Work directly with Hexon’s founder and ATLAS engineering team on technical strategy and product development
What We’re Looking ForRequired
- 10+ years of professional RF, microwave, radar, EW, directed-energy, or closely related engineering experience
- B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline
- Deep understanding of RF/microwave systems and electromagnetic principles
- Experience taking sophisticated RF hardware from concept through prototype and testing
- Experience with RF simulation, measurement, instrumentation, and laboratory development
- Strong understanding of antennas,
RF propagation, amplifiers, signal chains, and RF system architecture
- Ability to work across hardware and software boundaries
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering efforts
- Ability to operate in an early-stage environment where you will both design the architecture and work directly on the hardware
Highly DesiredExperience in one or more of the following:
- High-power microwave systems
- Directed-energy systems
- Counter-UAS
- Electronic warfare
- Radar
- Phased arrays / AESA
- Beamforming
- High-power RF amplifiers
- GaN RF systems
- Pulsed-power systems
- FPGA-controlled RF systems
- Defense system integration
- EMI/EMC engineering
What Makes This DifferentWe are not looking for someone to maintain an existing RF product. You will have the prospect to help define an entirely new capability within ATLAS.
The long-term objective is an architecture where ATLAS can integrate sensing, tracking, identification, decision support, and multiple counter-UAS effectors through a common command-and-control platform.
You would be one of the technical leaders responsible for turning that vision into real hardware.
Ideal CandidateYou have spent years building serious RF systems and have reached the point where you want more ownership.
You can sit at a whiteboard and architect a system in the morning, work with engineers in the lab that afternoon, brief leadership on technical risk the next day, and eventually build the engineering organization required to take the technology into the field.
If you’ve worked on advanced RF, radar, electronic warfare, counter-UAS, or directed-energy programs and want the opportunity to build something from the beginning, we’d like to talk
