Position Overview Planning Project Engineer The Planning Project Engineer plays a critical role in developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules and plans to ensure successful project delivery within scope, time, and budget constraints.
Key Responsibilities Project Planning & Scheduling Develops comprehensive project schedules using industry-standard software (Primavera P6, MS Project). Creates detailed work breakdown structures (WBS) and establishes critical path milestones. Coordinates with project teams to define task dependencies, durations, and resource requirements.
Schedule Management & Monitoring Tracks project progress against baseline schedules and identifies potential delays or bottlenecks. Conducts regular schedule analysis and updates forecasts. Prepares progress reports highlighting variances, risks, and recovery plans. Facilitates schedule coordination meetings with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
Risk Analysis & Mitigation Identifies schedule risks and develops mitigation strategies. Performs what-if scenario analysis to evaluate alternative approaches. Maintains risk registers and recommends proactive measures to keep projects on track.
Coordination & Communication Collaborates with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to align planning activities. Provides schedule inputs for project reviews and stakeholder presentations. Ensures effective communication of schedule changes and their implications across project teams.
Documentation & Reporting Maintains accurate project documentation including schedules, progress reports, and change logs. Prepares executive-level dashboards and detailed technical reports. Documents lessons learned and best practices for future projects.
Required Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. 3-5 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, or controls within construction, engineering, or real estate development environments.
Technical Skills Proficiency in Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project. Strong understanding of critical path methodology (CPM) and earned value management (EVM). Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination is advantageous. Knowledge of construction processes, procurement cycles, and permitting requirements.
Core Competencies Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. Solid attention to detail with ability to manage multiple complex schedules simultaneously. Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications Project Management Professional (PMP) or Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP) certification. Experience in commercial real estate, infrastructure, or large-scale construction projects. Familiarity with Lean Construction principles and Last Planner System methodologies.
