ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
MUSE Vision Centre is being developed to provide accessible, quality primary eye care to the remote communities of Spiti Valley .
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Optometrist who is keen to combine professional optometry with community healthcare and outreach.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations and refraction.
- Perform objective and subjective refraction, retinoscopy and visual acuity assessment.
- Conduct binocular vision, paediatric and basic ocular health screening.
- Screen for cataract, glaucoma suspects, diabetic/hypertensive eye changes and other common ocular conditions.
- Identify red-flag cases and ensure appropriate referral to ophthalmologists.
- Provide spectacle prescriptions and support optical dispensing/fitting.
- Conduct patient counselling and eye-health education.
- Participate in village, school and community eye-screening programmes.
- Maintain accurate patient records, referrals and follow-ups.
- Operate and maintain optometric equipment.
- Support the day-to-day clinical functioning of the Vision Centre.
- Participate in outreach activities across remote areas of Spiti.
Requirement / Essential
- B.Optom / Bachelor of Optometry from a recognised institution.
- Strong fundamentals in refraction and primary eye care.
- Positive communication and patient-handling skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Basic computer skills.
Preferred
- 1–3 years' clinical experience.
- Experience in an eye hospital, vision centre, optical practice or community eye-care programme.
- Experience in outreach eye screening.
- Additional training in paediatric optometry or ocular disease screening.
