Roles and Responsibilities – Project Site Engineer
1. Site Supervision and Installation
- Drawing Interpretation: Read and execute works based on approved Schematic drawings, Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), and Shop drawings.
- System Installation: Supervise the installation of transformers, switchgears, HT/LT panels, cable trays, earthing, lighting, and lightning protection systems.
- Cabling and Termination: Oversee high-voltage and low-voltage cable laying, dressing, glanding, and termination works.
1. Progress and Resource Management
- Labor Coordination: Manage and direct in office electricians, technicians, and subcontractors to maintain daily productivity targets.
- Material Tracking: Inspect incoming electrical materials for quantity and damage, and manage site inventory to prevent shortages.
- Schedule Control: Monitor daily progress against the master project schedule and report delays immediately to the Project Manager.
1. Quality Assurance and Safety
- Quality Inspections: Conduct routine site checks to ensure workmanship aligns with project specifications, local utility rules, and international standards (like IEC or NEC).
- Testing and Commissioning: Perform or witness critical pre-commissioning tests, including insulation resistance (megger test), continuity, loop checking, and earth resistance tests.
- HSE Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols, ensuring all workers use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
and follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during hot works.
1. Documentation and Coordination
- Daily Reporting: Maintain precise site logs, including daily progress reports (DPR), labour attendance, and material consumption sheets.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Coordinate constantly with civil engineers, MEP coordinators, clients, and consultants to resolve site clashes or design bottlenecks.
- As-Built Drawings: Mark up site changes accurately to assist the design team in preparing final As-Built drawings for project handover.
1. Project Planning & Schedule Control
- Timeline Execution: Drive all construction activities to strict alignment with target milestones and completion dates.
- Proactive Resource Planning: Ensured project continuity by submitting workforce and material demands 20 days ahead.
1. Site Safety & Compliance
- PPE Enforcement: Guarantee that all site personnel wear appropriate safety equipment and follow safety protocols during working hours.
Key Skills Required
- Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of electrical power distribution, testing instruments, and local electrical authority regulations.
- Software: Basic proficiency in AutoCAD for drawing review and Microsoft Excel for progress tracking.
- Soft Skills: Strong leadership, quick problem-solving on the field, and clear communication under pressure.
