Job Title: Mechanical Field Technician - Marine Robotics
Company: Vikra Ocean Tech
Location: Chennai (Perumbakkam / Vengavasal), Tamil Nadu
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Experience: 0 - 3 Years (Freshers welcome)
About Us
Vikra Ocean Tech Private Limited is a specialist subsea inspection and underwater robotics company based in Chennai. We deliver ROV-based inspection, unmanned surface vehicle (USV) surveys, and applied marine technology services to clients across the oil & gas, ports & maritime, and offshore renewables sectors. Our team combines field engineering with contemporary expertise in sensor integration, computer vision, and machine learning to deliver data-driven subsea services.
The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated and hands-on Mechanical Field Technician to join our compact field technical team. This is not a standard desk or workshop-only job. You will be a crucial part of our deployment team, responsible for workshop assembly, field trials, customer demonstrations, and survey support for cutting-edge marine robotics (USVs, ROVs, and underwater crawlers).
If you love working outdoors, are physically fit, and are excited about marine technology, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanical Assembly: Assemble USVs, ROVs, crawlers, and survey equipment. Handle hull fitting, brackets, thruster mounting, sensor mounting, and payload integration.
- Fabrication & Waterproofing: Perform drilling, tapping, grinding, cutting, polishing, and fastener installation. Support the assembly of waterproof enclosures using O-rings, gaskets, adhesives, and sealants.
- Field Deployment & Support: Prepare for field trials (managing tools, spares,
charging items, checklists, and packing). Support deployment and recovery operations at lakes, seas, ports, reservoirs, and customer locations.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and fix on-site issues such as loose mounts, leakage points, damaged fasteners, structural damage, and alignment issues.
- Documentation: Maintain basic maintenance logs, field trial notes, damage reports, and update checklists using basic computer skills (Excel/Google Sheets).
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automobile, or Marine Engineering.
- Experience: 0 to 3 years. (Hands-on workshop ability is highly preferred over academic marks).
- Technical Skills:
- Strong mechanical fitting and hand-tool skills.
- Ability to read simple engineering drawings, sketches, and assembly photographs.
- Basic knowledge of fasteners, adhesives, sealants, clamps, brackets, and cable supports.
- Tech-Savvy: Willingness to learn the basics of USVs, ROVs, sonars, GPS, cameras, and telemetry equipment.
Work Environment & Travel Readiness (Mandatory)
- Travel: You must be ready to travel anywhere in India or abroad at short notice via flight, train, road, or boat.
- Workplace: Comfortable working outdoors in diverse conditions, including near water, on boats, at fabrication floors, and at defense/customer premises.
- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and comfortable handling tools, lifting equipment boxes, and managing deployment accessories during long field days.
- Discipline: Strict adherence to safety instructions, site discipline, and professional behavior at customer sites is required.
Work Location: In person
