Role Description This is a full-time, in office role based in Vizianagaram for a Lead UAV / Drone Systems Engineer. The role involves leading the design, integration, and validation of end-to-end UAV systems, including avionics, communication, navigation, and ground control infrastructure.
The engineer will oversee system architecture, define technical requirements, and coordinate cross-functional work with hardware, software, and operations teams to ensure reliable and safe flight operations. Day-to-day tasks include diagnosing and resolving system-level issues, performing flight tests, analyzing telemetry data, and improving system performance and robustness. The person in this role will also develop processes and documentation, mentor engineering team members, and collaborate with partners and vendors to support scalable aerial logistics deployments.
Airown is building the future of autonomous aerial delivery in India.
We are developing a drone-based delivery system designed to transport food, medicines, groceries and other lightweight, time-sensitive packages.
We have already successfully conducted a live drone-delivery demonstration , and we are now building our own next-generation delivery drone.
What are we building?
Our drone will be designed to carry a delivery package from a designated station to the customer's location and perform a controlled rope/winch-based delivery , allowing the package to be lowered without requiring the drone to land directly at the delivery point.
The system will involve autonomous flight, GPS/GNSS navigation, flight controllers, sensors, obstacle detection, telemetry, communication systems, payload monitoring and automated delivery mechanisms.
Your Role
As our Lead UAV / Drone Systems Engineer , you will take ownership of the core drone development, including:
- UAV architecture and system design
- Flight controller and autopilot integration
- Motors, ESCs and battery systems
- GPS/GNSS and navigation
- IMU, altitude and other sensor integration
- Autonomous flight systems
- Obstacle detection and safety systems
- Payload and rope/winch delivery mechanism
- Telemetry and communication
- Prototype development and integration
- Ground and flight testing
- Performance optimisation and troubleshooting
What We're Looking For We are looking for a hands-on engineer who can build and test UAV systems , not just operate drones.
Experience with ArduPilot, PX4, Pixhawk, autonomous UAVs, robotics, embedded systems, flight-control systems or delivery drones will be highly valuable.
