Chemistry Expert (PhD) – AI Safety
Location: Remote (United States)
Engagement Type: Part-Time Contract
Compensation: $61–$77/hour
About the Opportunity
This opportunity is for PhD-level Chemists interested in contributing to advanced AI safety and evaluation projects. You will apply your expertise in chemistry to help improve how next-generation AI systems handle specialized scientific topics while ensuring accuracy, safety, and responsible reasoning.
No prior AI or machine learning experience is required. Training will be provided on project workflows and evaluation processes.
Ideal Qualifications
- PhD (completed or ongoing) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
- Expertise in areas such as Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or Computational Chemistry.
- Strong familiarity with up-to-date laboratory methods and computational techniques within your specialization.
- Excellent scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, and technical writing skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to scientific accuracy.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Sound judgment regarding chemical safety and responsible handling of sensitive or dual-use information.
Responsibilities
- Write expert-level prompts across specialized chemistry topics.
- Evaluate and annotate AI-generated responses for scientific accuracy, quality, and safety.
- Apply structured guidelines to classify prompts, responses, and conversations.
- Review chemistry-related content for technical correctness and adherence to safety standards.
- Identify inaccuracies, reasoning gaps, and opportunities to improve AI performance.
- Provide detailed feedback to support the development of safer and more reliable AI systems.
- Contribute domain expertise to improve AI understanding of advanced chemistry concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research or coursework related to chemical safety, chemical security, synthesis, or hazardous materials.
- Experience reviewing, grading, auditing, or evaluating technical scientific content.
- Familiarity with AI evaluation, red-teaming, annotation, or content review projects.
- Previous experience in academic, industry, or government research environments.
Project Details
- Start Date: Immediate.
- Commitment: 15–25 hours per week, with flexibility up to 40 hours per week.
- Fully remote and flexible schedule.
Compensation
• Competitive compensation of $61–$77/hour .
