About the Role :
The Business Head / Group Head Gold Loans is a critical P&L; leadership role responsible for building, scaling, and managing the Gold Loan vertical as a key revenue and asset book driver for the Bank. The incumbent will own the end-to-end business strategy, portfolio quality, distribution expansion, and operational excellence across the gold loan product line spanning branch based lending, doorstep models, and digital-assisted origination channels. This role requires a seasoned banking qualified with deep expertise in secured retail lending a strong grasp of gold loan market dynamics in India, and the ability to lead large, geographically distributed teams within the regulatory framework applicable to Small Finance Banks.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Business Strategy & P&L; Ownership
- Define and execute the annual and long-term business plan for the Gold Loan vertical, aligned with the Bank's overall growth strategy.
- Own full P&L; responsibility including revenue, NIM, cost of operations, and portfolio profitability.
- Set targets for AUM growth, disbursement volumes, customer acquisition, and branch-level productivity.
- Benchmark the Bank's gold loan product against NBFCs and other SFBs; drive competitive positioning.
- Identify new geographies and customer segments (including agri-segment, micro entrepreneurs, and first-time borrowers) for portfolio expansion.
2. Product Development & Pricing
- Lead product innovation design and launch gold loan variants (bullet, EMI-based, OD against gold, digital gold loans) catering to diverse customer needs.
- Oversee pricing strategy including interest rate bands, processing fees,
- Collaborate with Risk and Credit teams to define LTV norms, appraiser quality standards, and gold purity assessment protocols.
- Drive digital journeys enable end-to-end digital origination, pledge management, and renewal workflows.
3. Distribution & Channel Management
- Drive expansion of gold loan touchpoints both branch-based and doorstep/field-based channels.
- Manage and grow a network of gold loan branches/hubs, field executives, and business correspondents (BCs).
- Forge tie-ups with jewellery ecosystem partners, microfinance networks, and co-lending partners where applicable.
- Develop and execute rural and semi-urban penetration strategies, capitalising on SFB's mandate to serve underbanked segments.
4. Risk Management & Portfolio Quality
- Define credit risk appetite for the gold loan book; monitor portfolio health metrics NPA, overdue buckets, auction trends, and concentration risk.
- Ensure compliance with RBI Master Directions on gold loans, LTV caps, and KYC/AML requirements.
- Oversee gold appraisal quality through certified appraisers and periodic audits of pledged gold.
- Drive early warning systems and proactive action on at-risk accounts to prevent NPAs.
- Manage auctions efficiently ensure adherence to regulatory timelines, customer notification norms, and recovery processes.
5. Operations & Technology
- Ensure seamless loan processing TAT from appraisal to disbursement in line with service standards.
- Drive tech adoption loan management systems (LMS), gold valuation tools, mobile apps for customers and field staff.
- Collaborate with IT and Digital Banking teams to build scalable, paperless workflows.
- Standardise SOPs for gold storage, vault management, and insurance across all branches.
- Monitor branch operational hygiene gold safety, security protocols, and audit compliance.
6. Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing organisation across zones and regions.
- Set performance management frameworks, KRAs, and incentive structures for the sales and operations teams.
- Drive a culture of customer-centricity, ethical lending, and compliance.
- Partner with HR on talent acquisition, training (gold appraisal, product knowledge, collections), and retention strategies.
- Conduct periodic field visits, review meetings, and business reviews at zone/region/branch levels.
7. Compliance & Regulatory Adherence
- Ensure full compliance with RBI guidelines on gold loans including revised LTV norms (75%), auction protocols, and record-keeping requirements.
- Liaise with the Compliance, Legal, and Internal Audit functions to address findings and implement corrective actions.
- Represent the Gold Loan vertical in Board/ALCO/Risk Committee reviews as required.
- Monitor changes in the regulatory landscape (including Fair Practices Code, PMLA, and KYC norms) and ensure timely implementation.
Educational Qualification
- MBA / PGDM (Finance / Banking) from a reputed institution preferred.
- CA / CFA or equivalent professional qualification will be an advantage.
- Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university mandatory.
Experience
- 15-22 years of overall experience in banking / financial services.
- Minimum 810 years of direct experience in gold loan business preferably with an NBFC (Muthoot, Manappuram, IIFL Gold, etc.) or a bank with a significant gold loan portfolio.
- Prior experience at a Business Head / Zonal Head / National Head level in gold loans is strongly preferred.
- Experience in Small Finance Banks, Regional Rural Banks, or cooperative banks will be an added advantage.
- Proven track record of scaling a gold loan book from 1,000 Cr+ is desirable.
Technical & Domain Skills
- Deep understanding of gold loan product structuring, LTV norms, and RBI regulatory framework.
- Proficiency in gold purity assessment methodologies (BIS hallmarking, fire assay, XRF testing).
- Strong working knowledge of credit risk, portfolio monitoring, and collections in secured lending.
- Familiarity with LMS platforms, digital origination tools, and data analytics for business tracking.
- Understanding of treasury dynamics gold price hedging, mark-to-market (MTM) risk.
