Our work spans Digital Public Goods & Infrastructure, Climate Action, Public Finance, Urban Development, Open Contracting, and Law & Justice. We have co-created digital public goods including open-data platforms, data exchanges, AI models, and citizen-focused applications.

About the Role

We are looking for an Associate Data Lead to join our team in Delhi. The role involves working closely with technologists, data professionals, sector experts, product teams, and leadership to build and scale impactful data products.

The ideal candidate should have robust experience across data strategy, product development, data governance, analytics, data engineering, and AI-driven solutions, along with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Leadership

- Execute data strategies aligned with CivicDataLab's organisational goals and mission.
- Lead and mentor data professionals, including Data Engineers, Researchers, and Data Analysts.
- Collaborate with initiative and project leads to ensure effective delivery of data-related work.
- Use data analytics to generate actionable insights for internal teams and external stakeholders.




- Develop data visualisation and reporting frameworks to support strategic decision-making.
- Establish and oversee data governance, quality, security, and compliance standards.

Product Development & Management

- Oversee the development and scaling of data and AI products and services.
- Work closely with product and service teams to ensure solutions address partner and user needs.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Manage feature priorities by balancing user requirements, business objectives, and technical feasibility.
- Support rapid prototyping, experimentation, and user-centric product development.

Data, Documentation & Scaling

- Maintain technical documentation, data-product specifications, and standards.
- Ensure compliance with open-data, security, privacy, and ethical AI guidelines.
- Create knowledge resources, reports, and documentation contributing to CivicDataLab's thought leadership.
- Contribute to fundraising, proposals, and initiatives aimed at scaling data products.

Stakeholder & Field Engagement

- Engage with stakeholders for pilot testing, user research, feedback collection, and product implementation.




- Represent CivicDataLab in discussions and forums related to data standards, privacy, AI, and emerging technologies.
- Travel to project locations for implementation, training, stakeholder consultations, and deployment as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- 5–8 years of relevant professional experience in data, product management, technology-driven programmes, data governance, or related fields.
- Experience in civic tech, open data, public sector, digital public goods, or social-impact technology is preferred.
- Strong understanding of data-driven decision-making, product development, and Agile methodologies.
- Hands-on understanding of data pipelines, ETL processes, APIs, and big-data technologies.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python or other data-oriented programming languages.
- Experience with data visualisation and analytics tools such as Apache Superset, Metabase, or similar open-source tools.
- Knowledge of AI/ML applications and their integration into data products.
- Experience managing or coordinating multidisciplinary teams comprising data professionals, technologists, designers, and domain experts.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, APIs, and data pipelines.
- Experience with Git/GitHub and open-source projects.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, privacy, security, and ethical AI.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create documentation, reports, proposals, and knowledge resources.
- Comfortable travelling for fieldwork, stakeholder consultations, implementation, and deployment.
