Planning Project Engineer Job Description
The Planning Project Engineer plays a critical role in developing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules and plans to ensure successful project delivery within scope, time, and budget constraints.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Scheduling
Develops comprehensive project schedules using industry-standard software (Primavera P6, MS Project). Creates detailed work breakdown structures (WBS) and establishes critical path milestones. Coordinates with project teams to define task dependencies, durations, and resource requirements.
Schedule Management & Monitoring
Tracks project progress against baseline schedules and identifies potential delays or bottlenecks. Conducts regular schedule analysis and updates forecasts. Prepares progress reports highlighting variances, risks, and recovery plans. Facilitates schedule coordination meetings with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
Risk Analysis & Mitigation
Identifies schedule risks and develops mitigation strategies.
Performs what-if scenario analysis to evaluate alternative approaches. Maintains risk registers and recommends proactive measures to keep projects on track.
Coordination & Communication
Collaborates with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to align planning activities. Provides schedule inputs for project reviews and stakeholder presentations. Ensures effective communication of schedule changes and their implications across project teams.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintains accurate project documentation including schedules, progress reports, and change logs. Prepares executive-level dashboards and detailed technical reports. Documents lessons learned and best practices for future projects.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
