Thermal Management: Understanding Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) mismatches and designing heat dissipation for sensitive optical/laser sources.
Kinematic Mounts & Alignment: Designing secure, kinematic mechanisms that preserve critical optical alignment during device operation, shipping, and usage.
Material Selection: Choosing the right materials (e.g., low-outgassing epoxies, specialized glasses, advanced polymers) suitable for delicate ocular environments.
CAD Proficiency: Mastery of 3D modeling systems like SolidWorks, Creo, or UG NX with heavy focus on Product Data Management (PDM).
Optical & Multi-disciplinary Analysis: Working knowledge of optical ray-tracing software (e.g., Zemax)
and Structural-Thermal-Optical-Performance (STOP) simulation tools.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Running structural and thermal simulations (via ANSYS) to ensure the device handles vibrations and varying operating temperatures.
Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA): Optimizing designs for precision machining, injection molding, and rapid prototyping.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T;): Fluency in ASME Y14.5 to ensure machinists and vendors build to exact specifications.
Cross-Disciplinary Leadership: Partnering with electrical engineers, software developers, and optical physicists to merge hardware modules into a unified, market-ready system
