Role & responsibilities
Diesel Generator (DG) Operator Roles & Responsibilities
Pre-Start Checks
- Check engine oil level.
- Check coolant level in the radiator.
- Check diesel fuel level.
- Inspect battery voltage and terminals.
- Ensure there are no oil, fuel, or coolant leaks.
- Check belts, hoses, and air filter condition.
- Ensure the area around the DG set is clean and protected.
During Operation
- Start the DG set as per SOP.
- Monitor:
- Voltage
- Frequency
- Current (Ampere)
- Engine RPM
- Oil Pressure
- Coolant Temperature
- Battery Charging Voltage
- Listen for abnormal noise or vibration.
- Observe exhaust smoke color.
- Record hourly readings in the log sheet.
Shutdown Activities
- Remove load gradually (if applicable).
- Allow the engine to cool down before stopping.
- Switch OFF the DG as per procedure.
- Record shutdown time.
- Report any abnormalities to the supervisor.
Routine Maintenance
- Clean the DG set daily.
- Check filters.
- Check battery electrolyte (if applicable).
- Drain water from the fuel separator.
- Report maintenance requirements immediately.
