Role Overview

The Mechanical Design Manager Solar BESS will lead the mechanical, structural, and thermal engineering lifecycle for utility-scale and CI hybrid energy projects. This pivotal leadership role is responsible for ensuring that solar tracking/mounting structures and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) enclosures are physically optimized, structurally sound, thermally productive, and engineered to withstand extreme environmental conditions. You will manage a team of mechanical engineers and draftsmen, transforming conceptual layouts into robust, buildable, and cost-effective physical assets.

Key Responsibilities

1. Structural Engineering Layout Optimization
- Site Equipment Layouts: Oversee the development of optimized physical plant layouts, including PV array spacing, BESS container placement, access roads, crane pads, and clearing/grubbing plans.
- Structural Analysis: Lead and validate structural calculations for fixed-tilt structures and single-axis trackers under varying wind, snow, and seismic loads.
- Foundation Design Interface:



Partner with civil/geotechnical teams to define mechanical load parameters for various foundation types (driven piles, helical screws, concrete blocks).
- Tracker Integration: Manage technical relationships with solar tracker OEMs to optimize tracking algorithms, torque tube layouts, and damping systems.

2. Thermal Management BESS Mechanical Integration
- Enclosure Cooling HVAC: Evaluate and optimize the thermal performance of BESS enclosures. Review and approve vendor designs for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) or advanced liquid-cooling systems to ensure optimal battery lifecycle maintenance.
- CFD Analysis: Supervise or perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyze airflow, temperature distribution, and hot-spots within battery containers and power conversion enclosures.
