We advise individual owner-operators and private buyers and are expanding our buyer-side advisory platform through a dedicated Aviation Desk for family offices and private capital evaluating aircraft acquisition, ownership, leasing, and related aviation mandates.
Why this role exists
We see the same pattern repeatedly. In the first quarter, someone mentions having recently acquired an aircraft. After a few questions, it becomes transparent that the purchase was accelerated by a year-end tax-planning mandate established with the family office's CPA or tax adviser.
The tax strategy itself may have been entirely valid. The problem is that aviation-specific expertise often entered only after the mandate, budget, and acquisition deadline had already been established.
The broker may have found an aircraft that met the stated mission and brought the transaction to closing,



while the broader ownership plan was still being worked out afterward.
Family offices are often disciplined at the two bookends of an aircraft investment: underwriting the acquisition and planning the eventual exit. What is more frequently missing is the middle — the aviation-specific oversight required throughout the ownership period.
Maintenance planning, engine programs, MRO relationships, and crew readiness materially affect the asset's economics long after closing. Those gaps typically trace back to the same root cause: the aircraft was chosen before the aircraft management and logistics plan existed. An Aviation Desk works alongside the family office's CPA, tax adviser, and attorney to identify aviation-specific issues that, left unaddressed, can erode the ownership economics and reduce the benefit the broader tax strategy was intended to create.
