Purpose/Objective

The Incharge Physical Lab (QC) oversees physical testing of clinker and cement, including Blaine fineness measurement and strength tests, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
They manage sample preparation, equipment calibration, and maintenance, support R&D; and process optimization, and ensure compliance with BIS norms.
This role includes data management, reporting, and enforcing health, safety, and environmental standards, while upholding ethical practices in all testing activities.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Physical Testing of Clinker and Cement: Oversee physical testing of clinker and cement using methods such as Blaine fineness measurement (using a Blaine air permeability apparatus) and Vicat needle apparatus for setting time.
Perform strength tests on cement cubes and mortar specimens, using a compression testing machine to measure one-day, three-day, seven-day, and 28-day strengths.
Sample Preparation and Handling: Manage the preparation of samples through quarter coning and mixing, ensuring uniformity for accurate testing of clinker, cement, gypsum, and fly ash.
Utilize equipment such as rotary sample dividers and ball mills for sample preparation and grinding.
R&D; and Process Optimization: Support R&D; activities by conducting physical trials and evaluating the effects of various additives and process changes on cement properties.
Use data from physical tests to optimize the grinding process and improve product performance.
Compliance with BIS Norms: Ensure the physical lab adheres to BIS norms, including maintaining proper calibration of equipment like Blaine apparatus and Le Chatelier’s apparatus.

Regularly review testing procedures and equipment maintenance to align with current BIS standards.
Equipment Maintenance and Calibration: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of physical testing equipment, including setting time apparatus, compressive strength testers, and Blaine fineness equipment.
Develop and implement calibration schedules to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
Data Management and Reporting: Record and manage physical test data using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of results.
Prepare detailed reports on physical test outcomes, including statistical analysis and recommendations for process improvements.
Quality Assurance and Cross-Verification: Perform cross-verification of physical test results with chemical analysis data to ensure comprehensive quality control and consistency.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies in test results, implementing corrective actions as needed.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in the physical lab, including proper handling of test samples and safety gear usage.

Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to maintain a safe working setting.
Ethics and Governance: Uphold ethical standards in physical testing, ensuring accurate and reliable results and adherence to testing protocols.
Implement internal controls to prevent unethical practices and maintain the integrity of test data.
Organizational Skills: Prioritize tasks effectively to ensure timely completion of departmental objectives and projects.
Implement best practices in workflow management to reduce bottlenecks and improve output quality.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to changing priorities and demands with agility.
