Role Overview
The Senior Manager Electrical Procurement will be responsible for managing and leading the procurement of electrical components and equipment required for manufacturing, projects, and engineering operations.
The role will focus on ensuring timely availability of materials, competitive procurement, supplier development, commercial negotiations, cost optimization, vendor performance, and procurement process compliance.
The position will work closely with Engineering, Projects, Production, Quality, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to ensure procurement activities support business requirements, project schedules, quality standards, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end procurement of electrical components and equipment including motors, drives, cables, control panels, PLCs, sensors, switchgear, electrical accessories, automation components, and other industrial electrical items.
- Understand and analyse material requirements, BOMs, technical specifications, drawings, and project requirements to ensure appropriate procurement decisions.
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and maintain a reliable supplier and vendor base for electrical materials.
- Develop alternate vendors for critical and high-value electrical components to ensure supply continuity and reduce dependency on individual suppliers.
- Conduct RFQs, quotation analysis, commercial comparisons, negotiations, and purchase recommendations to achieve competitive pricing and favourable commercial terms.
- Lead negotiations with suppliers on price, payment terms, delivery schedules, warranties, lead times, and other commercial conditions.
- Drive cost reduction and cost optimization initiatives through price negotiations, alternate vendor development, value engineering, standardization, and supplier development.
- Monitor market conditions and price trends of electrical components to support effective purchasing decisions.
- Coordinate closely with Engineering, Projects, Production, Quality, Stores, and Finance teams to ensure timely procurement and availability of required materials.
- Ensure timely placement and processing of Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with approved procurement procedures and delegation of authority.
- Monitor open purchase orders and ensure on-time delivery of materials as per production and project requirements.
- Proactively follow up with suppliers and resolve issues related to delayed deliveries, quality concerns, shortages, specification deviations, and commercial discrepancies.
- Establish and monitor supplier performance based on quality, cost, delivery, responsiveness, capacity, and service parameters.
- Conduct periodic supplier evaluations and performance reviews and initiate corrective actions wherever required.
- Drive supplier development initiatives to improve quality, delivery performance, cost competitiveness, and service levels.
- Work with the Quality team to address supplier quality issues, rejections, corrective actions, and process improvements.
- Maintain effective relationships with key suppliers and vendors and conduct regular commercial and performance reviews.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of vendor master data, purchase records, quotations, comparative statements, POs, contracts, and procurement documentation.
- Monitor procurement expenditure and provide regular MIS and procurement reports covering purchase value, cost savings, supplier performance, pending orders, and material status.
- Work closely with Finance to manage payment terms, outstanding issues, working capital, and vendor-related commercial matters.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, internal controls, quality standards, statutory requirements, and approved procurement procedures.
- Identify potential material supply risks and critical procurement requirements and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Support annual procurement planning, budgeting, vendor finalization, and procurement targets for electrical categories.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, vendor consolidation, and procurement efficiency.
- Lead, guide, and mentor buyers and procurement team members to ensure effective execution of procurement activities and achievement of team objectives.
- Establish transparent priorities within the procurement team and ensure timely resolution of critical and urgent material requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- 8–14 years of relevant experience in Electrical Procurement, Purchase, Vendor Management, or Supply Chain functions.
- Experience in manufacturing, engineering, capital equipment, project-based, or industrial equipment organizations will be preferred.
