Job Description : Senior Manager, Controllership

1. Purpose of the Job :This role is accountable for independently leading the Canadian tax function in all functional areas including income tax provisions and returns; commodity taxes across federal and provincial jurisdictions; foreign withholding taxation and reporting; income and sales tax compliance and audits; transfer pricing; and Stats Canada reporting. As Senior Manager, Canada Tax and Controllership, the role ensures full tax compliance, mitigates risk with regulatory authorities, and delivers accurate and timely filings. It acts as a key advisor to senior leadership on Canadian tax matters while ensuring alignment with North American tax strategy through a dual reporting relationship to both Canada Finance and the NorAm Tax team. The incumbent will also play a strategic role in continuous improvement, contributing to tax process innovation, controllership enhancements, and broader finance transformation efforts. This role offers the opportunity to evolve into a more integrated financial leadership position within the Canadian Controllership team, shaping policies and practices that support the company's long-term goals.

2. Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

- Lead all Canadian tax operations, including the preparation and review of income tax provisions, returns, and monthly payments (corporate, sales, and withholding taxes).
- Interpret and implement Canadian and cross-border tax legislative changes across all relevant tax types.
- Ensure the company is compliant with federal and provincial regulations, including transfer pricing and Stats Canada reporting.
- Manage tax risks and maintain strong relationships with federal and provincial tax authorities.
- Oversee tax audits and ensure timely and accurate resolution with regulatory agencies.




- Develop and maintain tax policies and procedures that align with Canadian legislation and corporate strategy.

Process Improvement & Innovation:

- Design and implement Canadian tax procedures that ensure compliance with evolving tax regulations.
- Lead the transformation of manual tax processes into automated, efficient, and transparent systems.
- Continuously evaluate and revise existing tax processes and controls to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support broader controllership and finance improvement initiatives where tax intersects with reporting, systems, and policy.

Stakeholder Engagement, Leadership & Compliance Governance

- Advise business unit leaders, finance teams, and legal partners on tax-related matters to ensure alignment and compliance.
- Manage communications with units, District Managers, and internal departments related to Canadian tax obligations.
- Act as the key point of contact for NorAm support staff dedicated to Canadian tax matters.
- Lead, mentor, and develop direct reports within the Canadian tax team.
- Ensure all employees in the tax function operate in accordance with health & safety requirements.

3. Minimum Qualifications & Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (4-year preferred).
- Canadian CPA designation required.
- Completion of CICA In-Depth Tax Program required.

Functional Experience
Experience related to functional job tasks.

- Experience in public sector-related industries (education, healthcare) is an asset.

Leadership, Supervisory, and/or Managerial Experience

- 5 years management or supervisory experience in a similar tax-related role

Certification(s) may include designation(s), registration(s), license(s), Red Seal, Journeyman

- CPA designation (Canada)
- Membership in the Tax Executives Institute (TEI) is an asset

Technical skills Specify tools (hardware, software) and level of proficiency required: e.g. MS Office, data analytics, social media and digital platforms, technical writing, project management, product management, coding and programming

- Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate, indirect, and cross-border taxation.
- Intermediate to advanced MS Office, especially Excel.
- Experience with Taxprep, OneSource, and SAP preferred.
