Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance coverage accurately by reviewing policies, advantages, and eligibility through electronic health records (EHR) systems and managed care portals.
- Obtain prior authorization for medical procedures, diagnostic tests, and treatments by communicating effectively with insurance carriers and healthcare providers.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of all verification activities, authorizations, and correspondence in accordance with clinical confidentiality policies.
- Utilize medical coding skills including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding to support accurate billing and claim submissions.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure all required documentation is complete for insurance claims processing.
- Stay updated on health insurance policy changes, managed care guidelines, and compliance requirements such as HIPAA regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries related to insurance coverage and authorization status promptly and professionally.
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare workplace with exposure to insurance verification or medical billing preferred.
- Strong knowledge of health insurance policies, managed care processes, and prior authorization procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel for record keeping and reporting purposes.
- Familiarity with Eclinical Works for managing medical records efficiently.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical coding (CPT, ICD-9/10), and medical billing practices to support accurate documentation.
- Experience with Cardiology office operations insurance verification is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with a customer service-oriented mindset to effectively liaise with patients, providers, and insurance representatives.
