SAP ECC Vendor Master Data Lead – Finance Position Summary
The SAP ECC Vendor Master Data Lead – Finance will lead the strategic planning, profiling, cleansing, standardization, and governance of vendor master data within an SAP ECC environment.
This role serves as a key link between Finance business requirements, Procurement operations, and IT/technical teams, ensuring high-quality, accurate, compliant, and standardized vendor master data across the enterprise.
The role will establish data standards and governance practices, lead vendor data cleansing and harmonization initiatives, and oversee data migration and integration activities to support enterprise master data transformation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Master Data Strategy & Governance
- Define and maintain global vendor master data standards and governance guidelines.
- Establish data quality and validation rules for critical financial data elements, including:
- Banking information
- Tax information
- Payment terms
- Vendor classification and other relevant master data attributes
- Design and implement future-state vendor master data maintenance processes and approval workflows.
- Establish controls to prevent the reintroduction of duplicate, incomplete, or inaccurate vendor records.
- Define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability requirements across relevant business functions.
- Drive continuous improvement of vendor master data quality and governance processes.
2. Data Profiling, Cleansing & Harmonization
- Lead enterprise-wide vendor master data profiling and assessment activities.
- Identify:
- Duplicate vendor records
- Inactive or obsolete accounts
- Missing information
- Inconsistent or inaccurate data
- Data quality and compliance issues
- Coordinate with regional Finance, Procurement, and business teams to validate and enrich vendor information.
- Define and execute automated and manual data cleansing strategies.
- Establish data remediation rules and oversee execution across relevant business units.
- Monitor data quality metrics and provide recommendations for ongoing improvement.
3. Data Migration & Transformation
- Analyze legacy vendor master data structures and map relevant fields to the standardized target data model.
- Lead vendor master data extraction, transformation, cleansing, and loading activities.
- Define data mapping and transformation rules in collaboration with functional and technical teams.
- Oversee mock conversion and migration cycles.
- Lead data reconciliation and validation activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Identify and resolve data migration issues prior to deployment or go-live.
- Ensure appropriate data controls are maintained throughout migration activities.
4. System Integration & Technical Collaboration
- Collaborate with IT and technical teams to ensure vendor master data requirements are correctly implemented.
- Support integration of vendor master data across SAP and connected systems.
- Validate data flows between SAP and other enterprise applications.
- Identify and resolve master data inconsistencies across integrated systems.
- Provide functional guidance on vendor master data requirements, data structures, and validation rules.
5. Business & Stakeholder Management
- Partner with Finance, Procurement, IT, and other business stakeholders to understand vendor master data requirements.
- Translate business requirements into practical data standards and governance processes.
- Lead discussions and workshops related to vendor master data quality and governance.
- Provide recommendations to stakeholders on data quality, standardization, and remediation strategies.
- Communicate project progress, risks, issues, and data quality metrics to relevant stakeholders.
- Support change management and adoption of standardized vendor master data processes.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in SAP Master Data Management, with robust focus on Vendor Master Data.
- Solid knowledge of SAP Finance (FI), particularly Accounts Payable (FI-AP).
- Good understanding of integration between SAP Finance and Procurement (MM).
- Proven experience leading large-scale data cleansing, harmonization, governance, or migration projects.
- Strong understanding of vendor master data structures, processes, and data quality principles.
- Experience with data profiling, cleansing, transformation, and validation.
- Strong knowledge of data migration and transformation tools such as:
- SAP LSMW
- Winshuttle
- SAP MDG
- SQL
- Other relevant SAP data migration or data quality tools
- Strong understanding of global financial and tax-related master data requirements.
- Knowledge of banking data elements such as IBAN and SWIFT/BIC.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with SAP ECC in a global or multi-country environment.
- Experience with enterprise-wide vendor master data transformation initiatives.
- Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA migration and master data processes.
- Experience implementing or supporting SAP MDG.
- Experience with SAP data migration, conversion, and integration projects.
- Understanding of global tax and regulatory data requirements, including VAT, GST, and other regional tax requirements.
- Experience working with global Finance and Procurement organizations.
- Experience in a global manufacturing or large enterprise environment.
