- Provide individual and couple counselling.
- Assess HIV risk behaviours.
- Explain HIV infection, testing procedures, advantages, and limitations.
- Obtain informed consent before HIV testing.
- Address client concerns and misconceptions.
Post-Test Counselling
- Communicate HIV test results confidentially.
- Provide appropriate counselling for HIV-positive, HIV-negative, and inconclusive results.
- Offer emotional and psychological support.
- Educate clients on prevention and risk reduction.
Referral Services
- Refer HIV-positive clients to ART Centres.
- Coordinate with PPTCT, STI, TB, and other related services.
- Facilitate referrals for psychosocial, nutritional, and social welfare support.
Follow-up
- Encourage treatment adherence.
- Promote partner notification where appropriate.
- Conduct follow-up counselling as required.
- Maintain continuity of care.
- Promote stigma reduction and discrimination-free care.
Documentation
- Maintain counselling registers.
- Record client information accurately.
- Ensure confidentiality of all records.
- Prepare daily, monthly, and programme reports.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) guidelines.
- Adhere to hospital infection prevention protocols.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
Training
- Participate in continuing education programmes.
- Attend departmental meetings and workshops.
- Assist in community awareness programmes whenever required.
