Duty Medical Officer — Job Descriptions (Cardiology Hospital)

A valid MBBS degree from a recognised Medical University affiliated with TN Medical body as approved by National Medical Council.

The following are few key job descriptions of the Duty Medical Officer in a super specialty Cardiology Super specialty Hospital located at Chennai city, Tamil Nadu.

1. Clinical Evaluation & Patient Stabilization

- Conduct initial assessment of patients presenting with cardiac symptoms in the emergency or outpatient department.
- Perform focused cardiovascular examinations and order necessary investigations.
- Stabilize patients before transfer to cardiology specialists or ICU.

2. Emergency Response & Resuscitation

- Respond to cardiac arrests and other critical emergencies within the hospital.
- Perform ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) protocols.
- Coordinate with nursing staff and cardiology team during emergency codes.

3. Routine Monitoring & Documentation

- Monitor vital signs, ECG changes, and clinical status of admitted patients during duty hours.
- Document patient progress, notes, and treatment plans accurately in medical records.

4. Coordination with Cardiology Specialists

- Communicate findings, diagnostic results, and urgent concerns to cardiologists on-call.
- Facilitate seamless handover during shift changes and escalation of care.

5. Prescription & Order Entry





- Prescribe basic medications (as per hospital protocol) for pain, arrhythmias, hypertension, anticoagulation, etc.
- Order lab tests, imaging (X-ray, echo, troponin, etc.) as required within scope.

6. Patient & Family Interaction

- Explain diagnosis, basic treatment plans, and follow-up recommendations to patients/families compassionately.
- Address concerns with clarity and professionalism.

7. Reporting & Shift Handover

- Prepare detailed handover notes at the end of duty.
- Review pending investigations, concerns, and ongoing treatments with incoming medical officers.

8. Protocol & Safety Compliance

- Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety and hospital policies.
- Participate in quality improvement, morbidity review, and documentation audits.

9. Minor Procedures & Interventions

- Perform minor clinical procedures such as venous access, defibrillation, temporary pacing (as per competency), etc.
- Assist cardiologists during urgent procedures when needed.

10. Supporting Administrative Tasks

- Review and sign discharge summaries under supervision.
- Coordinate with pharmacy, radiology, and lab teams for timely patient care.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹45,955.83 - ₹72,637.95 per month
