JOB DESCRIPTION – DUTY DOCTOR

Position: Duty Doctor
Department: Medical Services / Emergency & Inpatient Care
Reports To: Medical Superintendent / Medical Director
Location: Umarani Multispeciality Hospital

Job Summary

The Duty Doctor is responsible for providing prompt and appropriate medical care to patients in the Emergency Department, Outpatient Department, and Inpatient Wards. The doctor will assess patients, initiate treatment, monitor clinical conditions, coordinate with consultants, and ensure proper documentation and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities

- Attend to emergency and routine medical cases promptly.
- Perform initial assessment, history taking, and clinical examination of patients.
- Diagnose and manage common medical and emergency conditions within the scope of practice.
- Initiate appropriate treatment, investigations, and referrals.
- Attend to inpatient calls and monitor patients' clinical condition.
- Review investigation reports and modify treatment as advised by consultants.
- Coordinate with specialists and consultants whenever required.
- Identify and manage medical emergencies and initiate appropriate resuscitation measures.
- Assist in emergency procedures and stabilization of critically ill patients.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records, case sheets, treatment notes, and discharge documentation.
- Ensure proper handover of patient information during shift changes.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their attendants regarding treatment and clinical condition.
- Follow hospital policies, clinical protocols, infection-control practices,



and patient-safety standards.
- Maintain professional and ethical standards at all times.
- Participate in rounds, meetings, training programs, and quality-improvement activities.
- Ensure appropriate escalation of deteriorating patients to the concerned consultant.
- Perform any other clinical responsibilities assigned by the Medical Superintendent.

Qualification

- MBBS from a recognized medical college.
- Valid registration with the State Medical Council / National Medical Commission.
- Additional postgraduate qualification will be an advantage.

Experience

- Freshers may be considered.
- Experience in emergency, inpatient, or multispeciality hospital practice is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

- Good clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with consultants, nurses, technicians, and other hospital staff.
- Knowledge of basic life-support and emergency-management procedures.
- Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Patient-focused approach and professional attitude.
- Willingness to work rotational shifts, including night duties.

Working Conditions

- Rotational duty shifts.
- Emergency and night-duty responsibilities as per hospital roster.
- May be required to attend patients across emergency, ward, ICU, and other clinical areas.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
