The BA in English programme at the University teaches literature with a focus on building critical and aesthetic sensibilities in reading different kinds of texts – traditional and newer forms – and capacities in writing. Our teaching practices and curriculum are informed by the needs of a diverse student body and the challenges posed by the context of learning English in India.

Alongside a core English programme that seeks to build knowledge in literatures produced in English, our programme also offers courses in allied areas like Visual Media, and Writing. The English faculty at the University are closely involved in developing courses aimed at fostering communication skills for students from all disciplines, through foundational English language courses.

Azim Premji University, Bhopal, started operations in August 2023, offering postgraduate and undergraduate programmes. The first phase of campus construction is complete and the overall 50-acre campus with state-of-the-art academic and residential facilities will be ready over the next few years. We expect to grow to about 4000 students and 500 members over the next few years.

In addition to teaching in our programmes, we offer faculty an enriching and fulfilling institution building experience encompassing interdisciplinary programme design, setting up and implementation of key institutional processes, culture building, and participation in various institutional bodies. The University encourages and offers support to faculty members for pursuing their own research.





We seek applicants who identify with the purpose of the University, and are keen to contribute to the design, development and delivery of courses in our undergraduate programme.

We seek applications from candidates who can:

- Teach and develop courses in Literature, Language Education, Digital Humanities, Popular Culture, Environmental Humanities, New Media, Cultural Studies, Folk Studies, etc.
- Teach a range of courses in the BA English programme core such as Methods in Literary Analysis, Drama as Text and Performance, The Novel, etc.

Requirements

- Expertise and experience in one of the areas listed above
- An advanced degree in English, Education or related areas
- 4 – 5 years of teaching or research experience after an advanced degree is desirable
- An active research agenda, and the ability and interest to teach a diverse classroom
- A commitment to the University’s aims of education for public service
- Candidates with an understanding of language teaching pedagogy will be preferred
