VMC Operator

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled VMC Operator responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and monitoring Vertical Machining Centre (VMC) machines to produce precision components as per engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and basic GD&T; requirements.

Perform VMC machine setup, including workpiece loading, fixture setting, job alignment, and work/workpiece zero setting.

Develop, enter, edit, and optimize CNC/VMC programs as required.

Have strong knowledge of G-codes, M-codes, tool offsets, work offsets, and program corrections.

Select and set appropriate cutting tools, holders, inserts, and tooling parameters based on the component and material.

Set and monitor cutting speeds, feeds, depth of cut, and machining parameters.

Understand basic properties of common engineering materials such as mild steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and cast iron.

Operate the VMC safely and monitor machining operations for tool wear, dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and abnormal machine conditions.

Inspect components using appropriate measuring instruments, such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and gauges.

Make necessary tool offset and program adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy.

Perform routine machine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, coolant checking, chip removal, and basic troubleshooting.

Identify and report machine, tooling,



fixture, or quality-related problems to the supervisor/maintenance team.

Maintain production records, tool information, and inspection records as required.

Follow 5S, safety procedures, quality standards, and production schedules.

Required Skills & Qualifications

ITI / Diploma in Mechanical, Machining, Tool & Die, or a related technical discipline.

Relevant experience as a VMC Operator/Setter in a precision machining or manufacturing setting.

In-depth knowledge of VMC operation and CNC programming.

Good understanding of engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances.

Practical experience in workpiece and fixture setting.

Basic knowledge of cutting tools, tooling selection, and engineering materials.

Good knowledge of VMC preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting.

Ability to use precision measuring instruments.

Basic communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently and meet production and quality targets.

Preferred Experience:

2–5 years of experience in VMC operation, setting, and programming is preferred. Candidates with strong hands-on experience may also be considered based on skill level.
