Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate, responsible, and experienced School Counsellor to support the emotional, social, behavioural, and academic wellbeing of students. The counsellor will work closely with students, parents, teachers, and school leadership to identify concerns, provide appropriate counselling support, and promote a positive and inclusive school environment.
The ideal candidate should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong listening abilities, and the maturity to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counselling to students on academic, emotional, social, behavioural, and personal concerns.
- Conduct age-appropriate counselling sessions and maintain proper records of student interactions.
- Identify students who may require additional support through observation, referrals, assessments, and regular interaction.
- Support students in managing stress, anxiety, peer relationships, academic pressure, confidence, motivation, and behavioural concerns.
- Conduct counselling and wellbeing sessions, workshops, and awareness programs for students.
- Assist students with academic and career guidance according to their interests, abilities, and aspirations.
- Work closely with teachers and school leadership to understand and address student concerns.
- Communicate with parents/guardians when required and provide appropriate guidance and support.
- Develop and implement student wellbeing and mental-health awareness initiatives.
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional resilience, communication skills, and healthy relationships among students.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student information and counselling records.
- Identify safeguarding concerns and escalate them to the appropriate school authority in accordance with school policies.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, reports, and follow-up records.
- Organize parent/teacher counselling and awareness sessions when required.
- Participate in school activities and contribute to a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualification/certification in counselling will be preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience as a School Counsellor, Student Counsellor, Psychologist, or Counsellor.
- Experience working with children and adolescents is preferred.
- Excellent communication and active-listening skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities.
- High level of empathy, patience, maturity, and emotional sensitivity.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and school management.
- Knowledge of child protection and student safeguarding practices will be an advantage.
