Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Import & Export / Customs & Logistics professional with strong knowledge of customs regulations, freight forwarding, CHA coordination, transportation, export documentation, and government export incentive schemes.
The candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating import/export shipments, ensuring customs compliance, working closely with CHAs and freight forwarders, and monitoring export obligations and incentives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customs & Regulatory Compliance
- Manage day-to-day import and export customs activities.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Customs regulations, procedures, notifications and circulars.
- Coordinate with Customs authorities and other regulatory agencies whenever required.
- Ensure accurate preparation and submission of customs-related documentation.
- Monitor changes in customs regulations and assess their impact on business operations.
- Coordinate with internal teams to resolve customs-related queries and documentation issues.
1. Freight Forwarding & Shipment Management
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines, airlines and transporters for import and export shipments.
- Obtain and compare freight quotations and negotiate rates where applicable.
- Track shipments from booking to final delivery.
- Ensure timely movement of cargo and monitor shipment schedules.
- Coordinate for documentation such as Bill of Lading, Air Waybill, Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin and other shipping documents.
- Monitor freight costs and ensure proper documentation for billing and reconciliation.
1. Customs House Agents (CHA) Coordination
- Coordinate with Customs House Agents (CHAs)
for customs clearance activities.
- Provide required documents and information to CHAs for timely clearance.
- Follow up on customs assessments, examinations, queries and out-of-charge procedures.
- Review CHA documentation and ensure accuracy of customs declarations.
- Monitor CHA performance and address delays or clearance-related issues.
1. Transportation & Logistics
- Coordinate domestic transportation of imported/exported materials.
- Arrange vehicles based on shipment requirements and delivery schedules.
- Coordinate with transporters for timely pickup and delivery.
- Track vehicle movement and shipment status.
- Ensure proper documentation for transportation and delivery.
- Monitor transportation costs and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
1. Dangerous Goods (DG) Handling
- Knowledge of Dangerous Goods (DG) regulations and transportation requirements.
- Ensure appropriate classification, documentation, packaging and labelling of DG shipments.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, airlines/shipping lines and transporters for DG cargo.
- Ensure compliance with applicable DG transportation requirements for air, sea and road shipments.
- Coordinate with relevant teams for DG declarations and documentation.
1. Export Obligations & Incentive Schemes
- Manage and monitor export obligations and related documentation.
- Working knowledge of EPCG (Export Promotion Capital Goods) Scheme.
- Working knowledge of RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products).
- Knowledge of Duty Drawback procedures and claims.
- Monitor export incentive claims and ensure timely submission of required documentation.
- Maintain records related to export obligations and incentive schemes.
- Coordinate with consultants, CHAs and internal finance teams for reconciliation and closure of claims/obligations.
1. ICEGATE & DGFT
- Hands-on knowledge of ICEGATE for customs-related activities.
- Working knowledge of DGFT portal and procedures.
- Coordinate for IEC-related activities, amendments and other DGFT requirements.
- Monitor shipping bills, Bills of Entry and other customs documentation through applicable systems.
- Maintain records and reports related to import/export transactions.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of Customs regulations and procedures.
- Good understanding of Import & Export documentation.
- Experience in coordinating with CHA, freight forwarders, shipping lines and transporters.
- Knowledge of EPCG, RoDTEP and Duty Drawback.
- Working knowledge of ICEGATE and DGFT portals.
- Knowledge of Dangerous Goods (DG) requirements.
- Good understanding of international logistics and freight movement.
- Strong follow-up and coordination skills.
- Valuable analytical and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously.
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
