Job Purpose To ensure safe, reliable and uninterrupted electrical operation of the plant during the assigned shift by effectively monitoring electrical equipment, attending breakdowns, coordinating maintenance activities and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
A. Shift Electrical Operations
- Monitor the overall electrical health and availability of the plant during the shift.
- Ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical plant equipment, including shredder, baler, conveyors, cranes, MHEs, compressors, pumps and other auxiliaries.
- Monitor HT/LT systems, transformers, HT motors, MCCs, PCCs, VFDs, PLC panels and electrical distribution systems.
- Record and monitor voltage, current, load, power factor, energy consumption and other key electrical parameters.
- Ensure proper switching and isolation of electrical equipment as per approved procedures.
B. Breakdown & Maintenance
- Attend electrical breakdowns immediately and minimize equipment downtime.
- Diagnose electrical faults and coordinate with technicians/electricians for timely rectification.
- Monitor recurring electrical failures and recommend permanent corrective actions.
- Coordinate planned/preventive maintenance activities during the shift.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and cleanliness of electrical panels, MCC rooms, substations and electrical installations.
- Ensure availability and proper use of essential electrical spares and tools.
C. HT/LT & Substation Management
- Monitor HT incoming supply, transformers, HT panels, LT panels and distribution systems.
- Ensure safe operation of 33 KV electrical systems and associated equipment.
- Monitor transformer loading, temperature and other critical parameters.
- Coordinate with the electricity utility in case of supply interruption, tripping or other external electrical issues.
- Ensure proper operation of DG/backup power systems, wherever applicable.
D. Safety & Compliance
- Strictly implement electrical safety procedures, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and permit-to-work systems.
- Ensure that electrical work is carried out only by authorized and competent personnel.
- Conduct regular inspection of electrical installations for unsafe conditions.
- Ensure proper earthing, insulation, protection systems and electrical safety devices.
- Immediately report electrical hazards, unsafe practices, fire risks and abnormal conditions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory electrical safety requirements.
E. Shift Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Safety and other departments for smooth plant operation.
- Attend production-related electrical issues on priority.
- Provide timely updates regarding breakdowns, equipment availability and expected restoration time.
- Ensure proper shift handover, including pending breakdowns, abnormalities, isolation points and maintenance activities.
F. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain shift-wise electrical logbooks and equipment records.
- Record breakdown details, downtime, root cause and corrective action.
- Prepare daily shift reports covering electrical breakdowns, maintenance activities and equipment status.
- Maintain records of preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Escalate major breakdowns and repeated failures to the Manager – Electrical Maintenance.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Electrical equipment availability.
- Reduction in electrical breakdown frequency and downtime.
- Breakdown response and restoration time.
- Preventive maintenance compliance.
- Reduction in recurring electrical failures.
- Power consumption and energy efficiency.
- Compliance with electrical safety procedures.
- Zero major electrical safety incidents.
- Accuracy and timely submission of shift reports.
Qualification
- Diploma / B. Tech / BE in Electrical Engineering.
- Electrical Supervisor / Competency Certificate will be an added advantage, wherever applicable.
Experience
- 3–5 years of relevant industrial electrical maintenance experience.
- Experience in steel, recycling, shredder, heavy engineering, manufacturing or similar continuous-process plants will be preferred.
- Experience in HT/LT systems, VFDs, PLCs, motors, MCCs, transformers and industrial electrical maintenance is essential.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of HT/LT electrical systems.
- Knowledge of industrial motors, starters, VFDs, MCC/PCC panels and transformers.
- Basic understanding of PLCs and electrical control circuits.
- Fault finding and troubleshooting of industrial electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical protection systems and relay operation.
- Knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance practices.
- Good understanding of electrical safety and LOTO procedures.

Shift Responsibility The incumbent will be responsible for the complete electrical maintenance and operational support of the plant during the assigned shift, including electrical equipment availability, breakdown management, safety compliance, manpower deployment and proper shift handover.
