Position Overview The Assistant General Manager – Finance & Accounts is a Group-level position responsible, first and foremost, for the integrity and timeliness of statutory compliance across all entities of the Group. The role also carries oversight of institutional Finance & Accounts functions at each entity, ensuring consistent processes, sound controls and reliable reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with the Group and institutional leadership, and Finance teams, and will be expected to bring order, discipline and a compliance-first mindset to a multi-entity structure spanning Schools, Colleges and allied companies.
Key Responsibilities
Statutory Compliance (Primary Responsibility)
- Own end-to-end statutory compliance across all Group entities, including GST, TDS/TCS, Income Tax, Provident Fund, ESI, Professional Tax and other applicable labour and tax filings.
- Maintain a Group-wide compliance calendar, tracking due dates, filing status and responsible owners across entities, and escalating risks well ahead of deadlines.
- Ensure timely filings under the Companies Act (for Group companies) and under applicable Societies Registration Act and regulations (for Societies and other entities), including annual returns, ROC filings and audit-related submissions.
- Coordinate statutory, tax and internal audits across entities, ensuring audit queries are resolved promptly, and audit findings are tracked to closure.
- Liaise directly with auditors, tax consultants, company secretaries and regulatory authorities on behalf of the Group.
- Monitor changes in tax, labour and corporate law relevant to the education and services sectors,
and advise the CEO on the compliance implications of new regulations or Group initiatives.
- Maintain documentation and audit trails sufficient to withstand regulatory scrutiny at any entity, at any time.
Institutional Finance & Accounts Oversight
- Provide functional oversight of Finance & Accounts teams at each entity, ensuring consistent accounting policies, chart of accounts and month-end closing discipline across the Group.
- Review and consolidate monthly MIS and financial statements from entities, and present a consolidated Group financial position to the CEO.
- Oversee budgeting and variance analysis at entity level, working with Heads of Institutions and Heads of Administration to keep spending aligned with approved budgets.
- Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, fee collection reconciliation and vendor payment processes, ensuring adequate controls and segregation of duties.
- Oversee banking relationships, cash flow planning and treasury operations across entities, including fixed deposits and short-term surplus management.
- Coordinate with HR/Payroll on statutory payroll deductions and ensure alignment between payroll processing and statutory filings.
- Support the CEO on ad hoc financial analysis for strategic decisions, including new entity structuring, capital expenditure proposals and cost optimisation initiatives.
- Identify and drive process improvements and, where appropriate, systems/automation to strengthen financial controls across the Group.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA), Cost and Management Accountant (CMA),
or MBA in Finance from a reputed institution; CA strongly preferred given the compliance-heavy nature of the role.
Experience
- 5–8 years of progressive experience in finance and accounts, with substantial hands-on exposure to statutory compliance in India (GST, TDS, Income Tax, ROC filings, labour law).
- Experience managing finance functions across multiple entities or locations, ideally including not-for-profit, trust or society structures alongside private limited companies.
- Prior experience in the education sector is an advantage, but not essential.
Skills and Attributes
- Strong working knowledge of Indian regulatory frameworks: GST, Income Tax Act, Companies Act, Societies Registration Act, Provident Fund and ESI regulations, and Telangana-specific labour law.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Eg. Tally) and strong command of MS Excel; exposure to consolidation across entities is valuable.
- High attention to detail and a low tolerance for compliance risk, balanced with the ability to see the bigger institutional picture.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor accounts teams across multiple locations without direct daily supervision.
- Explicit written and verbal communication, with the confidence to engage directly with auditors, regulators and senior leadership.
- Willingness to travel periodically across the Group's campuses and other stakeholder locations in and around Hyderabad.
What the Role Offers
- A Group-level mandate with direct visibility to the senior leadership across a diversified education group.
- The opportunity to build and standardise Finance & Accounts practices across a fast-growing, multi-entity institution.
- Exposure across statutory compliance, institutional finance and strategic financial decision-making, rather than a narrow, single-entity accounting role.
