Role & responsibilities
About the Role
SDFCL, a Mumbai-headquartered manufacturer of laboratory and specialty chemicals with 8,000+ products and a 200+ strong distributor network across India, is looking for a seasoned Head Accounts & Finance to lead the entire finance function. The role demands a hands-on professional who can combine strong technical accounting skills with leadership, business partnering and the ability to operate in a multi-SKU, multi-location manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Controllership
- Preparation and finalization of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, and Cash Flow in line with Ind AS and Schedule III of the Companies Act, 2013
- Consolidation of accounts across plants, depots, and branches
- Ensure robust internal financial controls (IFC) and well-documented SOPs across the finance function
Costing & Inventory Accounting
- Product costing, branch costing, and cost-centre-wise profitability for a multi-SKU manufacturing operation
- Standard costing, variance analysis, BOM-based cost build-up, and inventory valuation (FIFO/Weighted Average)
- Periodic physical stock verification, reconciliation with SAP, and resolution of variances
- Costing inputs for pricing decisions, new product launches, and make-vs-buy analysis
ERP, Systems & Analytics
- Strong hands-on working knowledge of SAP Business One (SAP B1) financial, inventory, and reporting modules
- Advanced MS Excel Pivot Tables, Power Query, lookup/array formulas, dashboards, and analytics
- Drive automation, digitization, and process improvement initiatives in accounts and finance
GST, Direct Tax & Statutory Compliance
- End-to-end GST compliance GSTR-1, 3B, 9, 9C, e-invoicing, e-way bills,
ITC reconciliation, departmental notices and audits
- TDS / TCS deduction, payment, returns (26Q, 24Q, 27EQ), Form 16/16A, and reconciliation
- Income Tax advance tax, computation, return filing, transfer pricing (where applicable), and tax audit u/s 44AB
- ROC / MCA filings, FEMA / RBI compliance for exports and imports, and coordination with Company Secretary
- Maintain updated knowledge of statutory changes and ensure timely implementation
Audits
- Independently manage and close Statutory Audit, Tax Audit, GST Audit, Internal Audit, Cost Audit, and special audits (bank stock audit, due diligence, transfer pricing, etc.)
- Liaise with audit firms; respond to observations and implement corrective actions
Banking, Treasury & Forex
- Liaison with banks for working capital facilities, term loans, LCs, BGs, packing credit, bill discounting, and forex transactions
- Preparation of CMA data, monthly stock and book debt statements, drawing power computation, and renewal of credit facilities
- Cash flow planning, fund flow management, and treasury operations
- Export-import documentation, LC negotiation, EEFC account management, and forex hedging in line with FEMA/RBI guidelines
Budgeting, MIS & Business Partnering
- Annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, variance analysis, and capex evaluation
- Monthly MIS to management revenue, gross margin, working capital,
AR/AP ageing, branch and product profitability
- Partner with Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and HR on commercial decisions, pricing, credit policy, and cost control
Receivables, Payables & Working Capital
- Debtors ageing review, credit control, and collection oversight in coordination with sales
- Vendor payments, reconciliations, and dispute resolution
- Optimisation of working capital cycle inventory days, debtor days, creditor days
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 15+ across accounts payable, receivable, costing, taxation, and treasury
- Set KPIs, conduct performance reviews, and build a succession pipeline
- Drive a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement
Preferred candidate profile
- Qualified Chartered Accountant (mandatory); MBA (Finance) / CMA / ICWA an added advantage
- 1520 years of progressive experience in accounts and finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role heading a team
- Manufacturing industry experience is essential; specialty chemicals, pharma, bulk drugs, or process industry strongly preferred
- Hands-on operational knowledge of SAP Business One (SAP B1); exposure to ERP implementation/upgrade is a plus
- Thorough working knowledge of GST, Income Tax, TDS, Companies Act 2013, Ind AS, and FEMA
- Proven experience in handling all types of audits independently
- Strong analytical and Excel skills; ability to convert data into business insight
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities
- High integrity, ownership orientation, and ability to work in a deadline-driven setting
- Mumbai-based or willing to relocate to Mumbai
