A 2nd Class Boiler Operator for Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB) in industrial settings (such as steel plants or power plants) is responsible for the protected and efficient operation of high-pressure boilers that generate steam using flue gas, usually while adhering to Indian Boiler Regulations (IBR). Key Responsibilities

- WHRB Operation & Monitoring: Start up, shut down, and operate WHRB boilers and auxiliary equipment (fans, feed pumps) to ensure steady steam generation.
- Parameter Control: Continuously monitor and control operating parameters via DCS or field instruments, including steam pressure, temperature, water level, and flue gas draft, to maintain optimal efficiency.
- Water Treatment Management: Regularly test boiler water and adjust chemicals to prevent corrosion, scale deposits, and maintain water quality standards.
- Field & Auxiliary Operations: Operate DM/RO plants, de-aerators, steam turbines, and steam networks, specifically in power plant environments.
- Maintenance & Inspection: Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of boiler equipment,



including clearing clinker/ash and cleaning air filters.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols (IBR standards) and handle emergency shutdowns, in addition to issuing work permits for maintenance.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate logbooks for boiler performance, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Certification: Valid 2nd Class Boiler Operator/Attendant Certificate.
- Experience: Generally 2–5 years of experience in WHRB or coal-fired boiler operations, particularly in steel plants or CPP (Captive Power Plants).
- Skills: Strong understanding of boiler mountings, valves, DCS (Distributed Control System), and WHRB systems.
- Physical: Ability to work in high-temperature environments and perform shifts.
