Role & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and control all operational parameters of the Blast Furnace through the Central Control Room (CCR) to ensure stable furnace operation and process optimization.
- Maintain optimum furnace temperature, top pressure, and gas flow distribution for uniform burden descent, fuel efficiency, and productivity targets.
- Monitor and regulate hot blast temperature, pressure, oxygen enrichment, and moisture control for process stability.
- Ensure productive charging sequences, burden distribution, and skip operations; coordinate with Stock House, Cast House, Blower House, and Gas Cleaning Plant.
- Continuously analyze KPIsincluding coke rate, productivity, hot metal temperature, silicon percentage, CO/CO ratio, and pressure dropand implement timely corrective actions for any process deviation.
- Lead initiatives for improving furnace campaign life, energy consumption, and refractory performance. Support process modeling and automation upgrades to maximize efficiency.
- Ensure round-the-clock control room operation with proper shift planning and adequate staffing; train control room operators in PLCDCS operations, alarm monitoring, and process protocols.
- Oversee equipment data logging, event recording,
and parameter trending; coordinate with instrumentation and electrical teams for smooth automation system operation.
- Identify and respond to abnormal furnace conditions (e.g., hanging, slipping, channeling, tuyere blockage), and execute emergency procedures in collaboration with field and maintenance teams.
- Achieve targeted hot metal production with specified temperature, silicon, and phosphorus levels by optimizing burden materials for quality and cost control.
- Maintain accurate log sheets and operational reports (daily/weekly/monthly); support management reviews, audits, and compliance documentation.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols for blast furnace and control room activities, including temperature and pressure safety, training, and investigation participation.
- Conduct daily performance meetings; communicate effectively between control room and field operation teams for rapid response and process improvement.
Preferred candidate profile Required Qualifications & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical, Mechanical, or Production Engineering (mandatory).
- Manager: 10–15 years’ blast furnace operation experience, including 3–5 years in control room or process optimization.
- Sr. Manager: 15–20 years’ furnace operation and process control experience, preferably in large furnaces (0.5 MTPA+)
