Job Description: A Shift Incharge (Ferro Alloys) in a steel plant manages daily furnace operations, ensuring production targets, safety, and quality standards (SOPs) are met during their shift. Key duties include monitoring submerged arc furnace parameters, managing raw material feeding, supervising staff, and reducing downtime. [1, 2, 3] Key Responsibilities

- Production Management: Oversee the entire furnace operation, including raw material charging, tapping, and casting to meet production targets.
- Process Monitoring: Control furnace parameters (temperature, voltage, amperage) to optimize energy efficiency and maintain slag chemistry.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (HSE) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), including mandatory PPE usage.
- Quality Control: Ensure produced alloys meet specified standards and conduct regular inspections.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, assign tasks, and train operators and maintenance workers during the shift.




- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Work with maintenance teams to address equipment breakdowns (furnace, cranes) promptly to maximize uptime.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production logs, raw material consumption, and shift reports. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Required Skills and Qualifications

- Education: Typically requires a Diploma in Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering.
- Experience: Usually 7+ years of experience in Ferro Alloys or SMS (Steel Making Shop) plants.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with submerged arc furnace operation, raw materials (manganese ore, coke), and smelting processes.
- Leadership: Solid supervisory and communication skills.
