A nurse's job is to help patients, families, and communities maintain or improve their health and quality of life. Some of their responsibilities include:

- Assessing patients Nurses evaluate recent and existing patients to determine their treatment needs and priorities.
- Monitoring patients Nurses observe patients to ensure they are progressing with their treatment and to identify potential issues.
- Taking vital signs Nurses measure and record patients' vital signs, which can help with treatment.
- Administering care Nurses may administer medications, apply sterile dressings, and perform phlebotomy.




- Providing post-operative care Post-operative nurses monitor patients' recovery, take their vitals, and assess their level of consciousness.
- Maintaining patient records Nurses maintain patient records and keep them private in accordance with the patient's right to confidentiality.
- Educating patients Nurses educate patients about their medical conditions and treatment plans.
- Providing emotional support Nurses may provide emotional and psychological support to patients.
- Preparing medical equipment Nurses prepare medical equipment and decontaminate it.
